    towing frustration

I looked into new Expys a couple years ago. While the old '03 XLT had HD tow, that was mostly removed from newer trucks unless you get a Limited or better. Key word.. 'limited.' They were hard to find and more expensive. The EL limited has the 3.73 gears for 15-17 which is what I was looking...

Would an 07 be a smart purchase?

He's a family friend and trying to help you guys out that's great. l would ask him to take it to a shop and get a quote to fix the power steering leak. If the rack is leaking, that could be expensive and it might not be a great deal after-all. Maybe the shop can also look at anything else that...

    Dog ramp suggestions

Dogs generally won't use the ramp on their own at first. You need to leash them to get them up or down. That builds confidence. When looking for a ramp be conscious of how much it bounces. My dog hated any sort of bounce and felt uncomfortable. My ramp has this sandpaper texture for grip. I...

New engine or new vehicle ?

Did you consider a junkyard engine? It might be significantly cheaper. New/Used trucks are selling at premium at the moment. You might be paying $2-4k more than what you would have (relatively) paid for a couple years ago.

Deepest snow you drove through for some distance

I can't compare WNY snow to the Rockies, but I was impressed when I traded my 28ft 5500lb camper in. I had to get it from the field it was in that had about a foot of snow. I hooked up the bars and had all fours spinning until I hit the road. I had Goodyear trailrunners on. The tread is a mix...

How much can I really tow safely

I know 2015-17 Limited Expys came with HD Tow. Anything less than a limited most likely didn't have HD tow. Not so sure about 2018+ because I didn't look into those when I was searching. The ultimate tow rig in those years was a Limited EL. Then you got the 3.73 gears for sure. The larger...

How much weight are you towing with a “non” HD Expedition?

HD tow should be standard. That was the most frustrating part of shopping for an Expedition is weeding out the non-HD Expeditions and the clueless salesmen who think the tow package means it has a hitch.

Dead at the Dealership Parking Lot

I'd look at a you-pull-it year personally. The one near me has an entire row of Expeditions. Some with as low as 90k on them.

    Liftgate clearance / trailer jack

That's exactly what I did. Hook up to tow vehicle and bring the jack up. Take out 3 bolts and rotate jack to one side or the other for the holes to line up again. Piece of cake.

Question about weight distribution hitches and rear axle weight

I would take it back to the RV dealer with those numbers and see what they say. They might need to readjust the WD for you. It could have slipped slightly coming unaligned. I had to take mine back. Maybe they can adjust the tilt on the shank. I think the WD is capable enough.

What is the best year Expedition to buy?

I hated the handling of the 2017 Limited I test drove. I tried on some curvy roads. The suspension was really soft. I felt I had to slow down to stay in the lane around a curve. It was almost like you could feel the body tilt towards the outside of the curve, if that makes sense. I don't know if...

This has to be the highest priced 2nd gen in the country.

Whoa. I bought my 2003 XLT for less around 14 years ago. Had around 74k. Gas was around $4 a gallon and these trucks just sat on the dealer's lot.

    Losing transmission fluid.

When I replaced a leaking power steering line, I had the mechanic do the transmission lines because they were a step behind the power steering lines in terms of rust. For what it's worth...

    Travel Trailer Recommendations.

Lol. Now-a-days 1000lbs popups come with electric brakes! I had a buddy who got one last year and the dealer made him install a brake controller on his Ford Escape! Back to your original question, many trailer companies fall under the same parent company Thor. Some things are the same, others...

    Disappointing 4WD performance on snow.

That sucks. I had a 2003 and I loved the 4H. I had Goodyear Trailrunners; kind of a mix of highway tire and mud tire. I could go 55mph through snow covered highway while other cars were spinning out. No issues. I traded my camper in the middle of February. It was 6000lbs. I pulled it through a...
