I'd look at a you-pull-it year personally. The one near me has an entire row of Expeditions. Some with as low as 90k on them.

I don't think $1,400 is out of line for the dealership to install those parts. I just spent almost $2k to get ac repaired on my 2003. Here's a snapshot of the work done with the compressor. It's more than I was hoping it would cost, but it's piece of mind knowing it was fixed by Ford with Ford parts and is warranted for 3 years.

I'm an advocate of DIY if you can. Factory Motorcraft AC compressor for his 2008 is $321 at rockauto. My dealers wanted $180 for a motorcarft TXV, rockauto has them for less than $40. . .

If its still holding refrigerant, that's going to be slightly annoying. You can reach out to a mobile mechanic and see of they will recover the refrigerant for you.

Also if your compressor seized then I would flush the ever living crap out of it! You probably have particles all throughout the system. Replace both TXVs and dryer. Depending on the severity you might have to replace the condenser or evaporator.
