    !!! 200,000 4.6 triton preventive maintenance suggestions !!!

Here are some pictures of the last 4.6l intake gaskets I did a few months ago on one with 190k miles that wasn't leaking coolant yet (but was just about to) and was running pretty poorly due to top end vacuum leaks.

    !!! 200,000 4.6 triton preventive maintenance suggestions !!!

Also if you want to triple the life of your transmission you can get a trans expert to drop the valve body and install a super tuff separator plate, zip kit, and new overdrive servo pin kit. That will eliminate all the common failure issues that kill these otherwise rugged transmissions.

    !!! 200,000 4.6 triton preventive maintenance suggestions !!!

I'd get the upper/lower intake manifold gaskets changed out, by that mileage they are sure to be rock hard and not completely sealing anymore. I'm sure they'll discover a few other vacuum lines that are either leaking or just about to go bad while it's apart that will ensure another decade of...

    Remove front bottom seat

I've done about a dozen Expedition leather seats over the years from 99-2010 and they are very simple to do. Only four bolts and a few electrical connectors under the seat to disconnect (make sure to slide the seat back forward before undoing the power so you can fit it out the door opening...

So Im getting the 2012 Navigator....

5w40 is OK for very high mileage engines, but if it were mine I'd always run 5w-30 from new and replace the timing chain and oil pump once you hit 200k with a quality timing set and melling high volume oil pump. This is a much better way to ensure plenty of lubrication to those wider bearing...

So Im getting the 2012 Navigator....

Yup, the Triton's were designed for 5w-30 and the only reason they changed the specification to 5w-20 was to get an extra .2 mpg sacrificing longevity in the process. The bottom ends are pretty much all the same and all changes to the later engines were minor mostly upgraded phasers...

    5.4 clattering at startup

Most likely one of the two timing chain tensioner seals has failed. In 2005 when they went to variable valve timing 3 valve motors they also changed the design of the timing chain tensioners that got a small gasket between the tensioner and the block where it used to be a metal to metal fit...

So Im getting the 2012 Navigator....

If it were mine I'd drain the oil and refill with good synthetic 5w-30 it's the best oil to ensure long life in all newer 6 and 8 cylinder Ford engines.

    One piece intake manifold plenum

Most likely you only need new lower intake gaskets. They are pretty cheap and not too bad of a job to replace. Wouldn't waste my time getting a new intake until the old one is off and inspected. 90% of the time the intake is ok but sometimes the aluminum crossover pipe can corrode pretty...

P2195 P2197 rough idle after warm up

If you haven't had the intake manifold gaskets replaced yet they are way past due. They all leak and allow the engine to suck air when it warms up giving those codes and also when they get bad enough they can leak coolant into the top of the engine or out onto the ground. It's about a 3 hour...

mid range top end power loss, horrible gas mileage

My 2006 had a similar problem about a year ago when it rolled over 200k miles. When I pulled the intake manifold off to replace the upper/lower intake manifold gaskets (that everyone should do after 10 years because they all leak coolant and air) I discovered that the plastic valves on one...

    Ecoboost Spark Plug Change

Plugs are right under the engine cover, and extremely easy to change unlike the older engines. Only tips I have is to use a little anti seize and boot grease on the new ones and do them every 40k or so. Been using good fuel but with as much carbon as there was on them, I guess it might be...

    Ecoboost Spark Plug Change

Just changed the plugs on my 2017 Ecoboost and couldn't believe at only 40k miles the gaps had eroded 5-7 thousandths and plugs were really carboned up. Didn't bother going to the dealer to try and get warranty coverage as it was only $42 and 20 minutes time to install the Motorcraft Iridium...
