Hello, I usually use regular but if I am towing my camper or going on a 400+mile road trip I like to use 93 octane. I didn't really look to see if I get much of a difference in mileage but I am a little old school and I like to think it makes a difference at the pumps. Hope this helps and have a good day.

FYI, i had a 2004 with the 4.6. it blew a plug and something with the timing, phasers, etc. malfunctioned and caused the passenger side of the motor to starve for oil. that was many moons ago, so i dont remember exactly, but i do remember being pissed off!!!!! i sold it as is. i did not fix it. i did like that truck though.

No powertrain is perfect or unscathed. Anyone can find examples of malfunctions of anything. Here is a 3.5 EcoBoost that blew a chunk out of the engine block. Both are fine powertrain s but any mass produced engine has a certain % of premature failure.

People, this is not a new issue. Google it. Premium and Ecoboost. Ford concept is same power and better mileage. The motor has 20 to 30hp less on 87 octane. I bet salesman doesn't mention that. That means its on par with 325hp 5.4l. The mileage is also lower on 87 octane appx 1.5MPG. Ford is not new misrepresenting HP. The early 90's 5.0l Mustang was listed at 225hp. Many say it was actually closer to 300hp. The lower rating was to keep insurance rates, on the cars down.

Kind of the same here.... “at least 475 HP” ha.

I run 87 in mine. It's not worth the extra $20 bucks just for the wife to bring the kids back and forth to school. I tired 93 for a couple of tanks in a row just to see and noticed no difference. Gets around 18.5 - 20mpg on either one and feels like it has the same power.

This is the normal experience of 99% of car owners. The higher octane fuels come into play (and make a difference) in high compression engines (sport cars...not sporty cars) and at high revs in any other engine. The purpose is to reduce pre-ignition. It does not add power, make your engine last longer, or make your exhaust smell good. If you're not zipping around in a Lotus or Ferrari you don't need it.
