Hello,

I know this has been posted many times.

I am looking to upgrade my 2017 expedition to the HD towing package.

I understand I need a 7 pin plug.
A tranny oil cooler
And the trailer brake controller.

My question is, since I haven't been able to find anything super clear, has anyone done a real nice write up on how to do all of this with part numbers?

Also, while looking at the current wiring harness I found what appears to be wiring for the 7 pin harness in an of shoot from the 4 pin, plugged into a dummy plug. Does anyone know what this is?

I was looking at the manual and it said the HD cooling system holds one more pint so I doubt if there IS a HD radiator.

If you go to the towing and hauling section and put "HD upgrade" in the search box top right of the page there are many other threads like this on on the subject. There is good info in those and some lead to other threads as well.

Do the same with "7pin" (no space) and find out about wiring upgrade.

Still have questions after that on the HD upgrade, If you start a thread in towing and hauling it probably will get answered quicker and defiantly better.

Or you can stay here and debate whether or not the HD radiator exist with someone who has been reading their Hover round scooter owners manual.

OK I'll do some research over there.

Honestly though my main question is does anyone know what the plug is that goes into the dummy plug?

It is by the rear driver wheel and comes off the wiring harness for the 4 pin. To me it looks like a plug and play 7pin that was out up there and not used.

Where on the vehicle is this picture taken? Someone before thought there was a terminal that could be tapped at the near rear, but it ended up being for something else. There is a long thread about tapping the orange wire near the front driver firewall for the 12v auxiliary power.

The brake wire is wrapped up and capped near the bumper, then just tap into one of the wires for the reverse light, and you should be good to go.

This is what I used for my 7 pin adapter, but there are plenty of others like it out there.

The photo is taken near the rear driver side wheel. Before the wiring loom for the 4pin goes up by the gas tank/spare tire area which the second photo shows

The loom splits and the split ends in the plug. There is nothing coming out of plug box.

The photo is from the other side

The difference in rad capacities is actually quite interesting, why do you knock me for that info? Did it make you feel important or something? Do you have some kind of personality disorder?

That plug I have seen in a thread before and have been actively looking for it. @Langer hit the mark for you as from what I remember there is no plug and play. And like he said you can find the fat orange wire in the harness under the hood to get your 12v power to trailer. check for your brake wire and I will see if I can find that thread.

Found it! I remember now because this is where I learned that you can not upgrade the 4pin to 7pin with plug and play on the 3rd Gen.
This thread also explains your mystery plug.
