To conclude... the window now works perfect! The regulator makes a slight bit ticking but I think the grease needs to be worked in a bit that’s in there.

Lesson of the day: Definitely go with the Ford window regulators for this application.

Cheers!

Most of the time, Dorman parts do a fine job of fixing the problem. But, I have had a couple of times when the Dorman part looked and fit just like the OEM part - and seemed to work, but didn't solve the problem / clear the code, etc.

Very timely thread.

Driver's side window failed down yesterday. No ford dealership close to me had a Motorcraft part. O'Reilly's had a dorman. Just finished putting it in and it works perfectly. This is just my experience. Yours may vary.

I would have preferred the OEM part, but like I said, it wasn't available and I didn't want to drive around with the window open.

Just to add and make this thread more worthy... here’s a good video showing step by step how to replace your window regulators:

Second note, if you’re replacing the window regulator and if your window motor is not bad at all and working exceptionally fine... there’s no need to replace it. Usually when you place an order for the window regulator, there are 2 options:

1. with window motor (more money)
2. without window motor (less money)

Just simply take off the original motor from your old window regulator for the install of the new regulator and then reinstall after new regulator is in.

If you do need to go with a new window motor, I’d recommend going OEM as well as I’ve did some research prior to doing the window regulator install and was going to swap the window motor out just for a peace of mind for the future but these window motors last very long and are more well built than aftermarket options. Also, if down the road you do need to replace the window motor after it fails... it only involves taking the door panel off and removing 3 bolts from the window motor and reinstall a new one.

You just got a bad regulator or put it in wrong. My China one was $45 including shipping and works perfectly still. Not saying all China parts are good. I buy no OEM parts unless I have to...............usually a waste of money.

Hey guys,

My window regulator gave out yesterday on my driver window. I installed the new regulator today (all correctly). After the install, I noticed that my window goes down to low and hits the bottom of the door? Sounds like the glass hitting the bottom at least and I also noticed that the window sits way lower than before when it’s all the way down.

Is there like an electronically/memory fix that I am missing?
You have to reset the computer. There is a procedure to do that. It's not hard. I have a 2009 and I replaced my regulator. I assume you have auto up/down. That is what needs resetting.

I hate it they call those regulators. There's a motor, and the guides/cables. Nothing is regulated. The crazy thing is, the old crank windows, those were also called manual regulators. On those, the hand or arm would be the regulator.

I know I sometimes with I had the crank type. On my Versa, Grand Am, and Econoline, all had motor/regulator failures. I'm sure the Expy will fail probably this winter.

The grand am has had 3 of 4 window regulators fail. The back 2 windows are now locked up.

There is programming involved. You may be stuck with talking to the dealer or a well equipped independent shop.

The replacement regulator I bought was from Advance Auto Supply. I lived in an apartment then and had no place to work. I found a shade tree in a Kingdom Hall parking lot and changed it there.. The window still works fine, but the auto up/down has never worked since then. But I just hold the button. Most people do that anyway, even if they have the auto up/down. They do the same with the lane-change feature of the turn signals. They just click it all the way down or up each time.
