Hey guys,

My wife’s expedition unfortunately had a rock on the Highway fling up & it cracked her front camera, rendering it unusable.

1. Would anyone happen to have the part number for replacement?
2. Has anyone replaced one? Fairly simple or super invasive?

Any help is appreciated!

It's very likely gonna be a lot more work than you'd think it should be. Whole front end will likely have to come off, at least that's my experience replacing the faulty camera washer pump. It's not hard, but is quite fiddly requiring you to get into various positions to pop individual parts loose.

exactly what I was going to say, it will likely require the cowl above the grill coming off, the bumper cover, and the grill. I've done it but as Gixxer said, it's a fair amount of work.

Your vehicle insurance comprehensive coverage should cover the repair - minus any deductible.

Generally, comprehensive coverage claims do not affect your rates (unless you have a suspicious amount of repeated claims).

My wife is a state-licensed personal lines insurance agent (home & auto).

While what 99WhiteC5Coupe says is most likely correct, I will say that my camera washer was covered under a TSB. However, I'd have had to leave it at the dealership for a couple weeks until they had time to look at it and then wait for them to diagnose it, get the repair authorized, and finally complete the repair. The pump was $20 and required an afternoon of my time. For that, I was willing to suck it up and do it myself. Not so much with the complete transmission overhaul that I just had done.

If your dealership can do it quickly and the camera is expensive (very likely) then I'd go that route. But if it's worth it, the job is doable. The link I posted above is what I used. It required some figuring out of how things are oriented behind the bumper where you can't see things to match up with the diagrams, but I found it all and got it done. I didn't even break any tabs. If I can do it, you can too.

I know it's not the same, but my son and I replaced the front camera on his sister's Explorer--same problem, stone damage. All told, it took around an hour to complete. I would bet they both use the same camera which he bought at Ford for around $80 through his business. He found a YouTube video on replacing the grill and followed as many of the instructions as it took to get the grill loose enough to access to the camera.

I suspect that the Expedition front camera will be far more difficult to access. If your insurance will cover it minus your deductible, that might be the way to go.

It’s actually very simple! Obviously I had to go a little further than just removing the grille. This bumper relocated the factory camera into the bumper.
