USB C?

2019 Exp Max. The dual usb ports by the phone charger. Has anyone switched one or both usb to usb C? Easy to do? Where did you get the part? Thanks in advance.

Well, if those ports & their corresponding connections to the computer are anything like those on a home computer, swapping out the physical connectors should be relatively easy, and may or may not work, but that won't get you the added speed & bandwidth that USB-C offers, unless your vehicle has a system that supports native USB-C connectors....

So if the only thing you are after is the new style ports, then I say go for it, but ONLY if you know how/where to make the proper connections to the module/system/motherboard in the vehicle...

I have done this swap on some older computer cases that came with the older USB ports, nottaproblemo, as the parts are available online for about $15 (amazon/newegg etc)....but I also changed out the motherboard for one that had the native connectors & supported the newer protocols as well.

I've done it. I used the combo USB-A and USB-C port from I believe a 2021 model. Direct swap, no changes to head unit or anything, the USB bus is the same. Please note it does NOT change charging Amperage/Wattage. Believe it was Ford part number HC3Z-19A387-B or something like that, got it on ebay for like $25. Simple, use a standard plastic trim tool to pop it out, swap cable, you're good.

I've done it on other vehicles. @5280tunage - this solution seems like the best way to go if you just want modern ports. As was mentioned, you won't get the extra amperage but you'll get the convenience of using your USB-C cable.

Exactly! I have a post on here somewhere from a couple years ago where I showed drilling a couple holes as well, so I could route my USBC cable out of the tray area with the door closed. Comes out of the side of the center console and I put some rubber grommets in to protect the cable from the sharp plastic edges. like an extra 15 min job.
