XPEL XR Plus 30% on the windshield, 5% everywhere else. During the day it's like wearing sunglasses. At night it's not as bad as you may think. The only time it's a problem is when I'm on a road with no street lights.

What is the purpose of tinting the windshield so dark? Do you consider the lack of vision (at times) a safety issue?

Cause it looks cool. Limits use drastically for my use case. I would only be able to drive that ****** in daylight or with a wicked light bar blinding everyone along my way!

Looks great, except I would get pulled over the minute a cop saw it. I used Llumar Air Blue 80 <-- Same results non detectable.

It makes a massive difference with the heat. You can get similar heat rejection out of clear ceramic tints, but the solar energy rejection is slightly better the darker you go. Plus I like the way it looks and I don't like people seeing into the car.

I used to get broken into a lot, that entirely stopped when I started blacking out the cars. I can even leave it running in parking lots and nobody messes with it because you can't tell if someone's in the car.

It's definitely a shock for someone driving like that for the first time, but after a couple weeks your eyes adjust and it just becomes normal. After that, driving a car with no tint feels wrong.

As far as legality, I have been pulled over a few times over the years but in my area it's fairly common to have a tinted windshield

In Texas, window tint laws require that front side windows allow more than 25% of light to pass through (VLT), while back side and rear windows can be any darkness
. Windshield tint must be above the AS-1 line or the top 5 inches, with 25% or more light transmission. No red, blue, or amber tints are allowed.
Key Texas Window Tint Limits
  • Front Side Windows: Must allow > 25% VLT.
  • Back Side & Rear Windows: Any darkness (no minimum VLT).
  • Windshield: 25% VLT or higher allowed above the AS-1 line or top 5 inches.
  • Reflectivity: Maximum 25% reflective.
  • Side Mirrors: If the rear window is tinted, dual side mirrors are required.
Additional Regulations
  • Sticker: A compliance sticker must be placed between the film and glass on the driver’s side window.

That window tint on any of the front windows is so illegal here, not funny…
But it does look nice.

Beauty! Just had mine done recently. Tint guy accidentally put 35% on mine here LOL. We had 50 on it before and honestly the darker windshield is sooooo much better. We have 20 or 25 on the front windows to match all the rear windows in darkness. I do have some trouble when backing up the trailer at night, but other than that, I LOVE IT! Like you said, built in sun glasses

I have 50% Llumar IRX on my windshield. It's really the perfect level for me. Previously, I had 50% Llumar CTX and it was nice, but the IRX film is a higher grade and helps the vehicle stay cooler with more IR rejection. For NJ I don't think I would pay the premium.

The CTX windshield was broken while being serviced at a dealership and I drove to Florida from NJ with no tint. Big difference in light and heat. I called around and got the windshield tinted by a remote service in Port Richie area with IRX before driving back to NJ. For Florida, the IRX or other higher end film is the way to go.

Zero issues at night and knocks all of the glare and harshness out of the view. It provides a nice amount of privacy but not impossible to see the inside except on off angles. I have 35% on my front side windows and frequently compare the view and 35% would not be acceptable to me on a forward view at night.
