B&O Unleashed 22-Speaker Owners – How to Confirm & Your Experience?

I’m considering a new 2025 Expedition and I’m very interested in the B&O Unleashed 22-speaker sound system option. I’ve read conflicting information — some say it’s only available on higher trims like King Ranch and Platinum, while others claim certain packages on the Tremor can also include it.

I’m trying to figure out two things:

1. How to visually confirm if a vehicle has the 22-speaker system versus the standard 10-speaker B&O. (For example, are the headliner grilles over the front and second row)
2. Owner impressions – is the audio quality a big step up in real-world listening, and is it worth going for this option/trim just for the sound?

Would love to hear from owners who have it, and maybe see photos of the speaker grilles or headliner placements for reference.

Theres 2 b&o systems, the mid tier 10 speaker system which is standard on platinum and tremor, and the unleashed system with 22 speakers, which is bundled in the driver pkg, stealth performance, ultimate pkg and standard on king ranch. The easiest way to confirm is to look at the ceiling. The unleashed system has 4 speakers in the headliner beside the moonroof.

Im not an owner, only going based off of test drives. The unleashed system is really good. Compared to the class, its excellent. I think from my ears, the Macintosh maybe slightly better if you like bass, but other than that, they are very comparable. The armada also has a really good rich sounding system, but it tones down the bass as volume increases, the expy sounds better at higher volumes. I had a nav with the base revel and loved it to pieces, it maybe just about comparable to it,slightly worse, and nearly as good as the revel ultima with 30 speakers.

On a S to E scale, I'd give it a solid A. Below is how I'd compare it to other vehicles.

S - 30 spkr nav, 25 spkr grand wagoneer
A- 14 spkr nav(09 & 20), 22 spkr expy, 19 spkr wagoneer, 12 spkr klipsch armada, 16 spkr mdx, 19 spkr escalade
B - 12 spkr expy(18), 12 spkr cx9, 12 spkr mdx, 12 spkr bose armada, 14 spkr sequoia, 14 spkr bose denali

I have the 22 speaker setup in my expedition, it's good.
For the past 8 weeks I've had the 30 speaker nav also, it's equally as good.

Is "is it worth it", i'd say Yes with the over/under at 1500. Above that, I wouldn't have paid for it. Mine was like $800, so easy "yes".

My dealership sales rep here is telling me that the Tremor they have in stock is equipped with the 22-speaker B&O Unleashed system. I’m honestly a bit doubtful since I’ve always read that this option is mostly on higher trims.

I’m trying to confirm visually before I take their word for it — do you happen to know the easiest way to tell at a glance? or are there other clear giveaways that it’s the 22-speaker setup and not the standard 10-speaker B&O?

The B&O Unleashed is not available in the 25 Tremor.

Interestingly enough.. it was available on the 22-23 Tremor but not 24.
Weird how Ford changes options up... Maybe it will be back for Tremor in 26??

Also to note. B&O and Revel are both Harman brands.

If you need clarification, the 25 order guide has been posted in the 5th gen threads, you can download and read it, it breaks it down pretty easily.

The revel and b&o do sound similar, but b&o pushes the bass as bit more and has better sound staging from what i heard. Testing 25 nav and expy, the revel has more clarity and is smoother at higher volumes, but the b&o pushes volume louder and fills the cabin better. I felt the same about the 4th gen trucks too, though as I stated, I thought the base revel unit was incredible. The revels usually push the sound through the front speakers while the b&o seems to push ot through the doors

Here's some visual references:
First 2 images show the rear door, 22 spkr has tweeters in the doors

The other two shows the roof, though hard to see, the 22 spkr has speakers in the ceiling beside the ceiling handle.

thank you for the clarifications, indeed, when going through the order guide the 22 spkr option is unavailable for the tremor trim.

However, the visual reference doesn't add to the information we have as it shows the tremor trim with the additional speakers? so i think that the door speakers are from the standard spec maybe? and the speakers beside the ceiling handle only shows in the light interior photos which i guess is the platinum trim with the 22 spkr package.

Sry, I may have confused you. The first picture that doesn't have a speaker in the door is a tremor model. The second picture is the door card of the platinum drivers pkg that has the 22 speaker system. Third photo was from the same model in pic 1 that shows ceiling without headliner speaker. Last was the platty, same location. The pics were dealer photos from one location with both a tremor and platinum(dp) on their lot, both back door and ceiling photos.

I have a 25 with the Unleashed system and overall like it. It's probably one of the better factory systems I've heard over the last 5-10 years. As far as the 22 speaker count, how many are in the dash wrap piece? I can't figure out the exact locations/counts.
I have:
Front Doors-Coaxials(count as 2)=4
Rear doors-Tweeter,Woofer=4
Headliner-Is this a Full range speaker?=4
Rear Pillars-Coaxials(2)=4
Sub-1
Is there one above the rearview mirror? It doesn't look like a microphone pickup.

If you Google ford expedition b&o, it will take you to the b&o page which details the expedition sound system, however its for the 22 to 24 models. However, I wouldn't think the speaker placement would be that much different.

Thanks, yeah I did search earlier and didn't see any B&O update for 2025 model. I'm waiting on the Ford Service manual to be released, amazing how many items on a new model are "relocated".

I love the nonsense these manufacturers have done for years regardiing the quantity of speakers. A typical speaker was always a coaxial in the car. 1 speaker that had the mid range woofer and a tweeter. Or a 2 tweeter setup.

Now that’s 2 or 3 speakers according to car manufacturers. Nope. It’s really just one speaker. lol

22 speakers and you’ll probably really only count 6 and a sub (which really ain’t a sub).

But hey I guess the marketing nonsense works. People say wow 22 speakers!

Are you confusing channels for speakers?
You can have 100 speakers and only 2 channels. The number of speakers is more indicative of how they are splitting the harmonics with different size and tuned speakers not the channels.

When looking at audio systems, dont look at speaker count, look at the amount of channels the system uses. The higher the channels, the better and more distinct the sound is dispersed into the speakers. The escalade uses 36 channels for its 36 speakers and its usually heralded as one of the best stock systems in autodom.

If it's anything like my 2019, it's a bit of a pain and pretty easy to break something. I've had to remove mine several times to do some amp/sub work.

Essentially, you have to remove the D-Pillar trim (and if you have a speaker there be very careful, really easy to pull the wires right off the speaker).
then remove the bottom sill plate, and again, be careful. there's a sensor wire attached to it, disconnect that carefully.
then you'll have to pull everything out of the storage trays in the floor of the trunk, and remove two nuts holding it in. Pull back and up.
Remove the luggage tie downs if you have them from the QP Trim. Be careful with the plastic caps, they break off easy, you just pry the cover up and use a small nut driver.
Pull the C pillar trim off as well.
Should be a couple screws under the D and C pillar trim pieces.
Pull the back passenger door gasket up and remove the sill plate (just use a trim pry tool).
On mine i had to remove the door gasket from the liftgate a little, you may not since it's a different design.
Start prying the trim panel off, lost of panel clips. Be careful though, mine had several switches that needed to be disconnected as you pull so they don't break off.

I will tell you, the wire color codes were not right compared to diagrams I found on the webs. and it actually caused me some issues. The most reliable method of getting a high level signal as to use the wires from the sub enclosure. But be warned, mine was a dual voice coil sub, so you need to make sure you get the right +/- pair out of the four wires. no idea what those would be in yours, you could pull the sub out of the box and check that way. I also originally used a prefabricated connector pair coming off the Amp and that didn't work. Again, it seems there's some variation in the wire layouts. The molex connectors fit together just fine, but the pinouts weren't right, waste of $40.

One thing I find really annoying is that with anything that uses signal detection to turn on the HLC, has an issue with Auto Start/Stop. When the vehicle goes to start, it seems as though the BMC turns off the sub output, and the HLC shuts off. One of the brands I used actually had a delay that could be applied to prevent that behavior but it didn't work well for other things.

I used the Audio Control L2Ci Pro and love it. It has the variable impedance selector to simulate load. When these systems power up, they essentially do a quick speaker test, to search for resistance. if it's not there, it marks that circuit/speaker dead and logs errors, you can actually initiate the test from forscan. I have mine set to 20Ohms. no issues since. The first one that had the timer circuit didn't have variable impedance and I got lots of errors. And i wasn't going get out some old resistors to try and fool it.

I just traded my GEN 4 Expedition Platinum with B&O system for a GEN 5 Expedition Platinum with B&O Unleashed 22 speaker sound system.
I've been installing stereo system and other vehicle electronics for years and I must say I am totally impressed at the quality, tone and separation of sound. The comparison between the 4th and 5th GEN is extremely noticeable.
After tweaking the tone settings, (for me: bass 50%, mid 50%, treble 100%), the tone separation is incredible. The sub sounds way better than my 4th GEN did. The separation of instruments is 100% accurate. And the channel separation in surround mode creates a 360-degree experience similar to Dolby Atmos. The sound deadening of the cab is tuned perfect.
IMHO if you can afford to get an Expedition or any Ford with the B&O Unleashed 22 speaker system and you desire exceptional sound it will be money well spent.
