You might want to check to see if it has a remote starter on it. Look under the dash on the driver's side and see if there is a box/module down there.
You can just program new remotes on it when you get those. I can't remember the whole sequence, but it is pretty simple.
This thread will help to show the connections you have, and what may be needed to make everything work.

If the trailer has electronic brakes on it, it wouldn't hurt to get a controller just to be safe. At 3200 lbs, you could probably get by without it in a pinch, but if you will going through any mountains, get one.
You probably need to warm it up since I'm sure it's fairly cold up in Alaska. Get some hot water in a glass and dip the end of the hose in the water. It should make the hose more pliable to be able to fit over the nozzle nipple.
It does sound like a cop is bad. Get the code read at your local auto parts store and determine which one. When the misfire is bad enough, the engine can go into limp mode which cuts all power.
However, sometimes the "fail safe mode" (which is probably the message you got) can be another...
All depends on your intent to keep it till it dies or not. Since you are the original owner of a '98, I assume you are the type to keep it. Just remember, any major money you put in it, you will not get out of it due to it's age. But if you will enjoy the vehicle for many more years, it may...
Yeah, I thought they looked like a newer style, but since I have never seen Gen 1 captains, and don't have them in my gen 2, I wasn't sure. Heck, on looking at them a little closer, they might be third gen seats.
Sounds as if your coupler ball latch may be set too tight. Try loosening the nut on it a quarter turn and see if that helps unhooking it.
As far as increasing the tongue weight, just load more gear toward the front of the trailer (in front of the axle). More in the back will decrease it...
I just had my axle seal replaced on the front passenger side a couple months ago. The dealer replaced it as I was not willing to do the repair during the winter months, and I wasn't sure I could do it within a day. It only cost $175 for them to do it. I know the seal only costs about $15, but...
I would think pressing the dealer harder may be beneficial. Try to find someone else on ANY Ford vehicle forum who has had a similar problem resolved, and use that as an example (with an actual warranty claim number).
Do your wife and son have sunscreen or lotion on their legs prior to...
