Hello,

I purchased a 2004 Eddie Bauer that came with an aftermarket keyfob. I do not know the extent of what this keyfob does other than locking and unlocking truck. There is an antenna about rear view mirror. Keyfob has no markings as to brand, etc. I did look underneath dash and I see a wire harness of some sort. I do not know the extent of how much is aftermarket and how much is factory. I did see a wire coming down with a push in/out switch.

This keyfab is pretty rough and would just as soon go back to factory. Anyone have a clue as to how hard this would be? Would it be as simple as getting new keyfob and getting it programmed or is factory probably bypassed? I have no idea if this is even remote start. The keyfob has 4 buttons. I have yet to try to figure it out.

Any thoughts as to what I could do? I definitely do not want to be opening a can of worms by removing the aftermarket harness if it will cause issues.

Thanks

Correction: I do see Code Alarm written on keyfob. So I assume it at least has an alarm on it. I do know the Expedition came with factory keyless remote because it has the keypad on door.

Here is a pic

This is what i did.

I am on here right now because my '98 Expedition won't start... but it is not related to the Fob. I also have an '03 Explorer. For both I purchased extra Fobs, a used one one ebay and a used one at a wrecking yard. I believe each cost around $10 to $15 bucks. Then I called the dealer and over the phone he explained how to program. It has been a while, but if I can remember it was about as easy as turning the ignition half way and pushing the fob a number of times. Call the dealer first for instructions. They will want to sell you a new fob $50, $75 or what ever it was... but the used one's worked fine for me. Don't know anything about your aftermarket harness, but you might want to start this way, with a relatively inexpensive used fob? Just a thought...have a great day... and now back to my Expedition's problems.

You might want to check to see if it has a remote starter on it. Look under the dash on the driver's side and see if there is a box/module down there.

You can just program new remotes on it when you get those. I can't remember the whole sequence, but it is pretty simple.

I was looking for a module under the dash. When I was looking the other day I didnt have a whole lot of time so I just glanced at it for a moment. I didnt see a module underneath but I will have to investigate this a little further.

Found a module and yes I do have remote start. Now my next step is to replace this worn out code alarm keyfob. The buttons are so warn that they have a tear going through the middle of them. I go to their website and match up the keyfob and it says unavailable.. hmmm, Hopefully I can get a new or updated keyfob without having to replace the whole unit.

Unless you cant live without the remote start I would find a way to bypass the alarm setup as it will only cause yuou problems. usually the main thing is to by pass the starter bypass which is usually 2 large wires going to the ignition harness- splice the wire back together on the ign harness side and disconnect the rest. you can prog ford remotes by turning the key off and on 8 times ending in on the doors should lock and unlock you then push a button on each remote you have and the locks should cycle when all have been done turn the key off, they should all be programmed test them .
