Had the truck on a lift over the weekend and seen some rust that I am not to happy about on the frame. Has anyone had to deal with this problem before? If so, is there anything that can be done to fix it? Have ask my brother who is a mechanic and he said that the rust can not be fixed. He says because the ford frame is tempered steel it cannot be welded because it will crack. He says to ask dealer for my money back on the vehicle. If this is a fixable issue, I would like to be able to fix it since the rest of the truck is in such great condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I"m getting mad the more I think about this. I will be going to the dealer I bought it from tomorrow to see what can be done or ask for a refund. I missed this when I looked it over and am kicking myself. Don't know how this will come out but I have to try. I love this truck and should've known it was to good to be true. :bawl:

Most likely you are stuck with the vehicle. Unless there was a clause in the purchase agreement that allowed for you to return with-in a documented period of time. Their reasoning would be that you should of looked it over better than you did in this situation. I do not know about your lemon laws and if it pertains to used vehicles. But I would think that if this was a reputable dealer, they would honor a return based on the safety aspect of where the rust is and how deteriated the frame is. But if this was a buy here pay here type of place, you probably have no ground to stand on. You need to read your purchase agreement, and I mean all of it, especially the fine print.

Good luck with it.

And by the way, frames can be repaired by either sectioned with another or plated.

dealer should give your money back...the truck is unsafe with the frame rotted....look into your state licensing laws for dealers...he may say he didnt see it either dont make it right....but if he bought it from an auction he may have recourse with the auction house if they sold it as a "green light vehicle" with no announcements....which means the auction house would make the previous seller have to buy it back..if the truck was sold as-is..or frame damage...then you got your dealer on the hook....your best bet would be to spend 30 bucks and get a car fax report on it...

Thanks for the replies,I'm going nuts! I paid the cash for it and don't really look for the dealer to just say yeah sure here's your money back. BUT they ARE required by law to disclose info on things like this. While there doesn't seem to be a used car lemon law there is other ways I might be able to go about this. I've been looking round the net since I got home and might have a leg to stand on. I will be looking to get it fixed if all else fails, but what's it worth then....junk? This sucks! Screw it I'm going to bed, nite everyone.

The dealer provided the carfax report on it is the funny thing and it shows nothing wrong with anything. That carfax was a big selling point for me. The vehicle was a trade-in is what the dealer told me. He said the guy traded it for a Mercedes. I'm gonna see what happens tomorrow and will post the result. Good luck me!

Well I feel like I just put my dog down, but I got my money back. I called the dealer when I got off work and explained the problem, well he really didn't believe me at first. I did convince him though and he had me go to a body shop he trusts and get it checked out because he wanted to make the deal right. He said if it's worth fixing we'll fix it but if not that he'll buy it back. SO I went to the shop and they actually had 2 different guys look at it to figure out how to fix it and said that its rare to see one rusted out like that but everything else in great shape and of course I was like "yeah I know". They made dude out an estimate for a little over $1100. and called and talked to him. I didn't get to hear the conversation, but I called the guy when I left the office and we both agreed that nethier of us wanted to pay that bill and settled for the buy back. SOOOO now I'm looking again and dodged that bullet, but I will have the rest I look at put on the lift and thoroughly checked before buying if I get that far. Thanks for the support everyone...the search continues....

Sorry to hear about your problem, but glad to hear the dealer stood up and bought it back. Now to find one that is even in better shape.

old thread but good bet lotsa this out there that will come up,

dunno about repairs on rusted/rotted frames, likely a highly specialized hard to find anyone able to go there if doable at all, for anything other than minor non structural

dunno about the welding part, prob no good for repairs but then you have the folks who convert lincolns into stretch limos

Very old thread but I am in the same position sort of. I have had my 2004 EB Expy for about 5 years now. Every time I have it on the lift my mechanic tells me the same thing. Lots of rust under hear, should get it looked at. I only have 90K miles on the truck and the rest of the truck looks like showroom.

I have replaced the radiator support and both rockers under the doors. I am trying to find as much info as I can on frame replacement or repair. It is heavily rusted underneath but in the very rear the frame has some holes starting to develop.

Just wondering what others have done as I know this has been a problem for many of the 2004 and newer expy's.

I am so mad, 90K miles. This shouldn't happen. I have taken care of this truck inside and out.

At the very least I was thinking of putting on a rust preventative like Fluid Film.

Thanks.

I also have a 1997 Expy with about the same miles in excellent shape with hardly any rust underneath.

Go figure.

If you can post pictures of the area(s) that concern you .... that would be nice. My 2003 has extensive rust but I didnt identify any frame areas to be extra concerned about.

Are you sure they are rust holes or the little factory drain holes? In the rust belt just about every part underneath will have surface rust.
