    arm rest removal

Unzip the armrest cover and pull it at least halfway off (you might have to also slip the padding down - can't recall) to show the large bolt (remove it with a #50 torex socket) that holds on the entire armrest assembly. Undo the bolt and the arm comes off. This isn't an Expedition armrest...

    Painting the sidesteps?

I tried Mother's back-to-Black and it polished up the side steps real nice. My wife even came outside and said she liked it too, which just about shocked me into a heart attack. (This is the same woman who once famously said my Expy was "just a car.." - the heretic!) I'll see how well the...

    Interior Tan Parts

Not sure, but maybe this will help - http://www.a1autosupply.com/parts_cars.html They're a wrecking yard near me in Springfield, OR and they're showing a 2000 Expy with a tan interior. Might be worth checking out. (They sell a lot on eBay, so I know they ship at least some stuff..)

New First Gen In The Works!

Oh, one last bit of advice in response to what someone else mentioned - I'd stay away from a personal loan (which, if you have credit problems, you're not likely to qualify for anyway). Auto loans typically have the lowest interest rates, followed by home and other types of secured loans but...

New First Gen In The Works!

Well, just remember this... A private seller is looking for a cash sale..they're not likely to offer financing. A used car dealer is looking to sell you the POS car they bought at auction for twice what they paid for it..they don't care how much interest you end up paying on it. A bank is...

New First Gen In The Works!

rburch - you trying to get financing thru a bank (i.e Chase, BoA, etc) or a credit union? CU's are a lot more flexible (and forgiving) than banks. I was told when I started shopping for my beast that most bank are nearly impossible to get loans for used vehicals over 5yrs, much less one that's...

    New group: West Coast Expeditions

I started a new group called West Coast Expeditions for those of us in WA, OR, CA, NV and AZ. (Ok, NV and AZ aren't techically on the coast, but we want 'em anyway!) It's just a place to talk about 'local' stuff. You can find it under Community -> Social Groups.

Electrical issue with dash indicators and shifting?

Thanks Thermo - I guess I know what I'll be doing on my day off tomorrow.

    Painting the sidesteps?

I'm going to black plasti-dip the tan trim on my Expy once the weather warms up a bit more but I'm not sure what to do about the sidesteps.. they're in good shape but have been out in the weather for 14 yrs and have that slightly faded look to them. I don't think faded sidesteps next to newly...

Electrical issue with dash indicators and shifting?

Update Ok, a quick update - Went out to the truck to drive home for lunch and found water pouring in thru my driver side powered vent window back in the cargo area (it was raining pretty hard). I opened the window a bit and found it loose enough to move up and down by hand - it was adjusted...

Electrical issue with dash indicators and shifting?

I was driving to work today in my 1998 Expedition and had a problem. All of the indicator lights in the lower right half of my dash (4WD, 2WD, Low Fluid, Engine Light, etc) came on, I could hear what sounded like a relay click at the same time and the truck stopped shifting gears. The lights...

    Deep Scratch Repair

Than ks for posting the vid's - they were timely since I have a couple scratches to remove this weekend. ...and I had to laugh and re-watch the second video to count how many times the guy says "OK" during his 7.5 min video..(40 times! -grin). OK!

    Let's talk about electric fans

I've read several posts about replacing the stock radiator fan with electric fans (dual 16's seem to be recommended the most) and I'm curious to learn more about this mod. My understanding is sketchy but what I've gotten out of the discussions is that by replacing the mechanical fan you reduce...

    Couple of Pics!

I really like the black fuel door cover and front grill. I was thinking about doing the same things to mine and seeing how good yours looks has made up my mind. I think these small, dark details add a subtle accent to the whole vehicle.

    Wiring or Switch

Are you talking about the highbeams themselves being on, or just the indicator light? I can't tell from your post... If you meant the highbeam indicator light only: Check for physical shorts to the indicator light wire (GRY/WHT) or a bad Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) module. If you meant...

Fixed: No turn signals or hazard lights

The problem found and fixed! These two photos show the multifunction switch and the problem plug connecting into it. Just to the left of the HAZARD LIGHT switch you can see the "L" shaped piece of plastic I used to brace the plug (it has double-sided tape on the right side to hold it in place)...

The bottom of the steering column. (Besure to disconnect the battery and wait 2 mins before trying...

Fixed: No turn signals or hazard lights

Tools need: phillips screwdriver, standard screwdriver, 1/8" rod/stick The only tools I needed were phillips screwdriver, standard screwdriver, 1/8" rod/stick (this was the "handle" from some rockcandy my kids had, but anything about 1/8" dia and 3-4" long will work).

Fixed: No turn signals or hazard lights

Thought I'd pass my experience on to others... I let my wife drive my (ok, "our") Expy and suddenly the turn signals aren't working. (They did the night before.) I ran across a post BakerEdition left back in Nov about a similar problem and his suggestion to adjust the steering wheel up higher...

    Another Expy in Oregon!

I had a 1996 Explorer XLT for the last 10+ years but I'd wanted an Expedition for a long time (starting about an hour after I bought the Explorer, actually). When my Explorer died climbing out of California back to Oregon, I decided to finally get my first Expedition - a 1998 Eddie Bauer 5.4L...

    Left Stop & Turn Signal

Thanks BakerEdition - turn signals work again! Thanks BakerEdition! My wife drove my Expy and both turn signals and the hazards stopped working. I wasted a couple hours yesterday testing fuses, relays, checking wires. Tonight I ran across your post about moving the steering wheel up... I just...
