Yes the air flow (defroster, vent, floor) is vacuum controlled. The Temp (hot/cold) is controlled electronically (that's the blend door). Check your vacuum lines and reservoir.
With out vacuum it defaults to defroster
and the cargo net is used to secure wild children :)

Probably still the blend door (although still check the actuator). What happens with the blend door, is the top of blend door hinge mates with the actuator and being a plastic part subject to dramatic changes in temperature becomes brittle and breaks. The blend door just stays in one position or...
Most likely NOT the blend door (that is controlled electronically)
Climate control system uses vacuum to direct the air flow (vent, floor, defrost etc..) so A vacuum leak would be different symptoms
As mentioned above I would check your coolant level first, then water flow/thermostat
May possibly be the blend door or control for the blend door. I will look for a link to fault isolation and repair.. (had to fix it on my mountaineer)
