19 ince lcd touch screen project

ok heres the one to go along with my radio relocation and the basis for having to relocate the radio a/c controls vents and 12 volt port / cigarette lighter.
heres the beginning

start by cutting everything out that is not needed anymore
(note be careful not to break the air box behind where the radio was located like i did will have to break out the trusty J.B. weld for that one)

and as ive been discussing there the fiberglass is yet to come i will do my best to take pics of the whole proces.
there are a few thing i have to deside on before i get started on the fiberglassing
1. what to mount the lcd to either the dash from behind or to the top shell thats going to be fiberglass. there are pro's and con's to both ways.
2. to cap off or to build new custom vents
3. where to put the a/c controls
4. how to get my sceleton/mold built for the fiberglassing

ill post more when i figure more out or do some more work.

not to much if that is all you do. i believe if you just pull the dash apart you can get to where i put it. its only a few inches below where it was stock so the wire reaches without problems. that is the reason i put it there i was tired of building my own harnesses. idk if that helps you out or not. let me know. also its a odd ball size i used a 3/4 paddle drill bit and had to wiggle it around to make the whole just a little bit bigger to fit.

also by just pull the dash apart i mean pull the radio the radio surround the cluster surround and the top of the dash that is above the cluster.
so i use the words "not much" cause its all bolt and clips rather that cutting big chunks out.

sorry guys didn't get to work on anything today i had "work" to do.

edit: if i remember right there is a bit of plastic where the factory apm is that i had to cut to get it to fit all the way in maybe if you put it a little higher that may not be a problem.

edit 2: the other thing i forgote was that i ct them out of the plastic piece they were in just cause i wasnt using it again so idk how hard they are to get out of the original piece

either a 16 gig solid state hdd that i have laying around for the os or ill get another solid state for it idk yet
and a 500 gig usb external for what ever music movies and what ever i need on it to make it easier to transfer that data from my home nas.
will also have all the needed blue tooth and wifi for what ever i need be it tether to my phone or just a hotspot im sitting near.
edit: note all the parts listed are parts i have just laying around from recent pc upgrade all but the power supply i dont want to use a inverter if i dont have to.

wow...a lot of work and impressive...cant wait to see the finish product due to the fact that my initial thought was....WHY? you doing shows with this as the season is about to kick off? for #3...put you control in the armrest compartment or make a custom piece for it where the cupholder is

i might do shows at a latter time lol but prob not. this is mostly just cause i can. i like having something no one else has that and im a geek so what better than going all out on a car pc. you may say why but i say why the hell not. i want to keep the cup holders in the center the ones up on the dash are already gone. they might go in with the radio. the bigest pain there is the vent control is vacuum driven and i hate vacuum lines. i just had another idea if i put them just below the screen and work them into the fiberglass as individual controls rather than one unit and design my own control symbols and what not.
i like you cant wait to see it finished but it seems between my work and my wife im might not have time for my projects

update

small update today i was wronge i got a few hrs to work on sanding before the sun went down. shock my wife actually wanted to help she sanded for about an hour or so lol but i got a good two maybe three hours in not much but if i get another day with a few hours i will have prep sanding done i hope.



i think fiberglassing this small piece and building between it and the larger piece above is not going to be the easiest



and for tye center its getting done just to make it all flow and to get rid of a bunch of holes from old 15 ince mount and other things that were in there at some point the external hdd will either go here or with the radio also might get usb ports not sure yet



thats it for now but more to come at some point. heck i might just take a few days off to get it all done. but the again who am i kidding i cant afford to and probably wouldnt know what to do with myself if i wasnt working everyday and im to indecisive to get it done all at once ill probably change my mind on the details 100 times. if you cant tell i am a perfectionist.

yeah, the wife here works 48 hrs a week while he only works a few hours. granted he makes alot more than me in those few hours, but he still has plenty of free time to do whatever while im at work 9 hrs a day. so its only fair that at least some of the other six hours of the day that we aren't sleeping, are spent with me.

not to mention, i spent over 1 1/2 hours SANDING your dash with you bc you want me to do more things you want to do.

yea im fighting my trany dieing we took a trip to Maryland for a friends wedding and about half way up it started shifting really hard into overdrive so i figured i would try fresh fluid and filter with some lucas trany stop slip and conditioner just to get it back to Georgia thats been a year ago now and ive not had another problem tow cars all the time for buddies even a trip to Savannah for some friends that lost their trany in a v8 tundra truck was like 6800 and my trailer is another 1500 or so figured i was close to my tow cap. but 250 miles at 50 mph didnt miss a beat but i know im just living on barrowed time with 202000 miles on it.

Yeah mine has a bad sag in OD and 3rd with OD off! Shifts fine though!

sounds like big bucks to me lol atleast ive had better luck with my expy then my 98 accord ive never heard of a 6th gen accord auto trany lasting longer than 200 thousand definitely doing 5 speed swap in it would love to see a 5 speed expy. or what i want is a 7.3 turbo power stroke just need a donor truck with two wheel drive and non dually ive mesured expy's and f250 and 350s that had power strokes and they are not much different the expy is a bit wider in the fram on the front and i think most parts will swap as long as its two wheel drive and non dually but thats another project for another time and a bigger wallet than i have right now. if my trany goes though ill prob find a way

Cost me 1300 for reman trans. Was the cheapest i could find other than used!

thats not bad thats a price i could live with for trany work

quick update no pics this time i got a hour or so sanding done and saw some pics of Canadian Expy's expy lol send a quick pm asking about his center console and found out i need a center console out of a expy with stock sunroof so that has the rear heat and ac in it that would save me some trouble if i can get my hads on one of those all i need to do is pop out the rear controls and pop my controles in for front and extend the harness 6 inches or so to reach prob grab cut a harness out of another 97-00 or whatever i find at pull a part maybe f150 idk there are plenty of them at pull a part. just waiting for my buddie to get the money together for parts for his 240sx parts he needs and we will take a trip hit all three in atl get everything we both need all at once. it may not be as easy as popping out the old controles and and in with the new but atleast i dont have to start from scratch. also if any one knows this part number i would like to cheek the net for pricing but i guess i just havent found the right way to google for it and im being lazy today. prob call ford tomorrow and see if they can give me any info on it.

i dont under stand people these days why does it seem like no one wants to help any one out. dont get me wrong you guys have been great but i just got back from the stealership and they were less that useless i started by asking for some parts i need like a solenoid knowing they would be high 30 bucks not to bad but autozone is 15 or so ptm grill without paint 498.15 give me a break can get a aftermarket ptm for what 100 bucks then asked about interior told him its a 98 and explained what i was doing and i wanted parts for the center console and told him i had seen the one i want in a 02 showed him the pics from Canadian Expy center console and even showed him my pics so he hands me a print out from a 98 center console exploded showing all the parts thats great nice to have but i need it for a 02 so he says that seeing as i have a 98 and they cant even get any interior parts for anything 97-02 that was all he was going to give me. well thats the short version anyway. whats it hurt to print out one more sheet. heck email it to me some thing just tell me the part numbers and i will write it on the sheet i have. it would make it a easier search if i can not find what i need i a junk yard.......
wow i feel dumb now i spent 2 hrs searching for this dang thing the other night and today i found it in 5 mins. exactly what i need i guess the internet gods know that ford parts dept are a bunch of a$$es idk. still more than i want to spend on it 59 pluse shipping on ebay.

sorry i needed to vent abit. im back and its raining here will try to bring some parts in and sand again today. no work for me wooo. well that is for now service calls can come in at anytime.
