So before I even got to try my Acc delay mod, my driver front speaker seems to be out. I can hear the other 3, if I adjust the radio to just that speaker I have a very very low volume (at max volume on the radio)

I did replace the stock radio (Mach system) a few years ago with a JVC HD unit, not sure the output on it, but it can overdrive the stock system into a protection mode I guess it has built in (basically muting the speakers until it it turned back down again.)

I'm happy with stock sound, it was good enough for me. I love my music; but don't need a 2nd mortage to beef up the system.

Is R&R pretty simple? Remove the panel, R&R speaker, replace panel?

I assume the speaker is shot; but I will need to check wiring too; once it thaws out again.

But suggestion on cheap; but decent speakrs that I can plug & ply into the fron doors? Crutchfield says 5x7/6x8; not really sure what that means, shouldn't it be one or the other?

any of these work? ( I have a BB GC to use to help keep cost down)

Any aftermarket speaker will be a step up and better...5x7 6x8 are the speaker sizes that xan fit in the stoc locations without modification...u will have to make new ends to put on new speakers...other than that its pnp...those at BB will work...u will be pleased

I have the Pioneers in the front slots and are very happy with them for what they set me back. Rear is still stock but I would do those Pioneers back there as well if my money tree seeds would ever take.

I bought them from Best Buy as well and they had a wiring harness for about 10 bucks that allowed for PnP connection like Freeway said. Just ask one of the techs there and they can get you the harness from their installation center.

Thanks for the input.
Probably the JVC 3way over the Pioneer 2way?

The stock MACH speakers are a 2 way, 5.25" mid and a 3/4" tweeter. a few things to keep in mind. The MACH speakers have a rubber surround, if your going to do an aftermarket set DO NOT get a speaker with a foam surround. IT. WILL. RIP. A 3-way,4-way even 5-way is nice for more detail but can get pretty "bright" fast depending on the music and tuning. Personally look at spending a little more on a really nice speaker be it a 5"x7"/6"x8" or 6.5". Also where ever possible listen to them in an A-B test.

The other thing to keep in mind is the MACH speakers are sealed. At very least make/get a drip shield for the speakers you replace them with. Especially if your in the north with salt on the roads.

Last, and I have said it before and I'll say it again. Sound Deaden your doors. Our trucks benefit in a MASSIVE way from deadening not only in sound quality and performance but from usability of the truck. Road noise in mine dropped 7db in measured road noise on the hwy. It everyday terms. the driver cant talk to someone in the third row with a normal speaking volume not yelling.

I have a 3rd gen and recently replaced the factory speakers with Infinity Kappa 60.11cs's. What a difference! You can do the same thing in the '00 and I recommend it. Yes, they are separates, but it allows you to get the highs which are more directional closer to where they need to be - near (or on) the A-pilar. You get much better imaging with separates than when the tweeter and "mid" are on the speaker. You can look at other's too. I just liked the kappas when compared to the JBLs and Polk's.

Like Oblivion said, when replacing factory speakers, using sound deadening will help tremendously. In fact, with after market speakers, you need to put something directly behind the speaker as it will have an actual magnet that the door may interfere with. That's all I did with mine, but the 3rd gen has a lot of sound deadening built in - very quiet ride. So you may as well do the whole door while it's open.

Have fun - anything is better than stock.
