My OEM cd gave up. I picked up a pioneer cd player to toss in, but am lost with the install. I used to be into the audio thing and have done my time with subs/amps back in the 90's. The EB is my DD and I just need to wire up the HU and keep the OEM sub running I am under the impression I have a stock amp somewhere for the 4 other speakers, but the sub amp is seperate. Can I skip it and just run wire direct to the speakers (Pioneer has 50x4 so I think it will be better than the stock amp for the 4 6x8s). I also need to know what wires need to be spliced to keep the stock sub amp fed a signal. Is this doable or am I opening a can of worms? I have read that I can "step down" the 50x4 with a converter to make the stock amp run the stock speakers, but that seem like it would be waisting potential of the pioneer.

youre looking at opening a can of worms by doing all of that...find a wiring harness at a local audio shop or find online at places like crutchfield.com...your sub will stay connected and work unless you have an option with your new HU to turn it off...i have this option with my pioneer AVIC-D3...anyway...the harness will connect to the factory connector then you just connect the wires from the harnes to the appropiate wires to your HU...

to take it out...there are 6 screws total to remove...1st...start your truck and put in 1 (drive lowest gear) and turn it off...disconnect the negative on the battery...7mm or 8mm...now youre ready to take the panel off...2 screws underneath the top of the instrument cluster...phillips head...take those out...now be carefull from here on out...the only thing holding the dash in are connector and clips...start to pop the top of the dash and work your way left to right...everything that lights up has a connector to disconnect...light switch (i think 2)...A/C control panel...and 1 or 2 left of the control panel...ect...just work your way around...once all disconnected it should come right out with ease due to the gear selector being all the way down...

4 screws are holding the HU in...1 at each corner...take them out...pull out HU and disconnect the orange FM/power cable in the back and disconnect the connectors...*HIGHLY ADVISED* to get a wiring harness makes everything easier then follow directions to connect door speakers and everything else...

subwoofer/amp...hopefully you know that the sub is in the rear...not trying to insult intelligence...the panel on top of the sobwoofer in the back is removeable...pop that and the amp is in there...no need to mess with this unless youre going to ADD 10's, 12's, 15's ect and dont want to run RCA's from amp to HU...i dont have RCA's running to HU so i installed a converter connecting to the speaker wires of the sub...pics below...this is by memory...in iraq right now so i cant go to my truck but i've been in it doing stuff so many times...2nd nature...see pics below for amp area...
