hello, new to forum, just picked up an 03 xlt with 4wd. here is the problem...when in 2wd can turn left and right no problem and under normal acceleration at about 35-40 mph and I let off the gas , then touch and go with the gas lightly it seems to whine out the driverside front....then when I stop and put it in 4wd hi and try and turn (normal corner radius) it slows right down and if I turn a little more, it will stop the truck all together if I am not pressing the gas.

Now is this a outter wheel hub problem? do they have locking hubs?
Or a axel shaft problem (boots look great)?
Or a clutch or motor mechanism in the t-case?
again the binding only happens in 4wd hi or lo

I would really appreciate a quick response as if the problem is too great (new t-case etc) ...I would rather return it to the buyer...although it has low miles and is as clean as showroom...so you understand I would rather fix it.

thanks to all who chime in!

Todd

so my 03 kinda did something like this. the owner before me changed the front break pads but didnt turn the rotors. i had mechanics tell me it was everything from a bad diff to wheel bearings. so i got a temp reader(gun) and started checking where it was hot after driving it. my passenger wheel was way hotter than the rest so i started checking behind the wheel to see where the heat came from. nothing behind the rotor was noticably hotter than the other side behind the rotor. so i had the rotor turned and the sound is going away(pads and rotor dont match perfectly yet). also nothing is hotter on one side anymore.
