Just purchased a 03 Expy EB. Two problems I seem to be having and wanted to see if anyone has any input.

1. The backup aid does not seem to be working. It is turned on in the message center, and when I put trans in reverse, the message center says "check backup aid", however it does not beep when I get close to objects.

2. Auto tilt down mirrors don't seem to go down the same amount each time, and don't always return to the same position each time. Some times too high, some times too low.

Any ideas on either?

Thank you,

Known problem with the '03's. My dealer replaced the computer module, and it sorta fixed it (mirrors just wiggle a little), but he said that was all that FMC would do. :shootout:

Now, after a year with the new module, the backup sensor beeps every time it's in reverse. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

there was a big problem with the fold down mirror option, so ford wiped it in 04 i believe. mine works good....i love the option. there is a switch you can replace to repair it...but im drawing a blank at the moment! the backup aid may just be a bad sensor. that was the problem on my sisters windstar...one bad sensor will make none of them work.

As I said in the above post, my dealer said the computer that controls the mirror function was a bad design, and gave them nothing but problems. When they replace mine, they gave me a "rebuilt" unit, and it never did work right.

Also, I had a backup sensor go bad (constant beeping in reverse), and I uplugged it to find the culprit as suggested by Thermo and now I have the same response as you are seeing. I suspect that the previous owner disconnected one of the sensors.

Not a solution, but FYI.

No joke, I beat on all my sensors firmly with my hand or rubber hammer and they started working right again.
