Hi,
I have an 07 expedition that even at 85 degrees outside temp it won't pull down under 50 degrees at the vent even driving on the highway. (shouldn't it pull down to the low 40s? (using the standard air conditioner thermometer) When it's parked it only gets down to 54. It seems like it should get colder, it causes the fan to be running at high a long time. The dealer is telling me this is normal, that in 07 Ford changed an orfice that causes it to be a littler warmer. I have 800 miles left on my warranty and want it fixed before it ends. They have had to add freon at least once and they also added dye to help find a leak but they haven't found one.
Can anyone tell me if they are feeding me a line or not? I have an older ford ranger that pull the temp to 40 at the vent.
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Jeff

2008 Air Conditioning

I have the same complaint, with a twist. 10% of the time, the A/C will finally blow cold (not cool-ish). The AC in my previous Exp (2000) would keep meat fresh. This is my first summer with the 2008 and I am disappointed. Should top out at 115 today, taking it to the dealer for a second time and will post any findings...

After taking the service mgr for a ride in 109 degree heat during evening rush hour, his laser thermometer showed 55 degrees at best. The ruling from the dealer? Expeditions and F series can only hope for 50 degrees at the vent in the best conditions. Their recommendation? Never use the highest fan setting because the air will then move through the system too fast to cool.

I understand the rationale, but then why even have the highest speed? It's like some sort of bad take-off from "Spinal Tap" - - - ("...but these go to eleven.")

Not done yet...

Solution

Traded the 2008 for a 2012. Dealer said that design changed in 2009. My new 2012 Exp blows 40 degrees at the vent.

Are you running at max a/c with the air recirculating or regular with it pulling in outside air? If you're not recirculating cabin air through the evaporator 40 degrees cooler than outside is appropriate even 30 degrees would be acceptable.

Desert living and driving

Appreciate the post, but you have to trust me when I say that desert dwellers are very much in tune to the benefits of max AC. My 2008 AC system was such an underachiever that pulling in outside air was never an option. According to factory email correspondence and several trips to dealer, 55 at the vent was acceptable. That 15 degree difference does not sound like much, but after a 30 minute freeway drive, it still required both front and rear ac's on max, highest speed fan, just to maintain temp. Stopping at a red light, I could watch my vent temp thermometer go up to 58-60.

I absolutely love my 2012 (thanks Sanderson Ford) and the ac system gets down to 40 at the vent. (ac seats help seal the deal)

Good luck to any 2008 owners here in the desert southwest.

My 08 cant even cool the cabin until ts been driven a couple miles. If I go out and start it up the first thing I do is roll down the windows and head for the highway. In a mile or 2 the AC will start to cool, then I'll roll up my windows. My 3 year old boy will be covered in sweat driving thru town. I bet my cabin never gets below 15 degrees cooler than the outside temp. Tomorrow I'll put a gage on the vent and give you a number, but if this is standard thats redonkuless...

Not enough info to diagnose anything, but only cool on the freeway sounds like you've got a low charge. Should have operating pressures checked.
