I was driving home tonight and it was running great. After going around a curve, I stepped on the gas to speed up and it kept slowing down. Everything was fine except it was like the engine just cut off. I shifted into neutral and started it. About a half mile later it did the same, but never started back. It cranks fine but will not hit at all. I had a friend pull it home for me. Now where do I start? My only idea is fuel pump. Will autozone rent out their scan tools to see if it threw a code?

Also I took the cap off the fuel rail port and pushed the needle in with a knife. It had pressure, but I don't know how much pressure.

Thanks in advance.

Update:

I started looking at it again this morning. Found out I had no fuel pressure at all. I checked all fuses that were labeled fuel pump. Everything checked out. Safety switch made no difference at all. I was convinced it was the fuel pump. Removed the tank and after lots of choice words at the ford engineers, found what I believe was the problem. The pump has melted plastic, black terminals and the positive post of the pump wiggled. Now I am on a quest to find a fuel pump.

How did this not blow a fuse or explode the gas tank?

Update:

I got the fuel pump and installed it today. It was a "Carter" fuel pump. Everything looked identical except the new one only had 2 ports on top where the original one had 3. After looking at it, the original made a loop into the fuel filter and back to the pressure relief valve in the fuel pump assembly. The new one has the pressure relief valve plumbed inside the assembly before it leaves the tank. I figured 6 one way half a dozen the other. I switched to a fuel filter that only had one in and one out and omitted the extra fuel line.

It started and ran good. The only problem I see is that I had 1/4 tank of gas when it went out and now it shows 3/4. I know I looked at the float and all really close to make sure it looked the same. Is there a way to calibrate this?

After the morning drive, the gauge went from 3/4 to Full. Looks like it is working backwards.
