09 expy HVAC, help with clicking near gas pedal

tired of searching figured I'd ask.

New member here.. 09 expy EL.

I replaced the actuator behind the radio last summer. AC wouldn't work, after that it started working again. Well.. right at the end of summer it started clicking again. Sounds like its coming from around the gas pedal.

Everytime I start the truck it clicks for a while.

Do I need to order a "mode" door or another actuator? What exactly do I have to take apart to get to this? Does anyone have a diagram for these things?

Sounds like the actuator went bad again, order a Motorcraft one if you didn’t the first time. FordTech on youtube said the MC ones are the only ones he hasn’t had to do over twice.

Super common actuator to go out, I did the same on my my 09 and 17. Its just above the gas pedal.

The good news it is relatively easy to change, you just have to lie down in the drivers foot well and you can undo the 2 or 3 screws that mount the actuator and change it out. I removed mine, opened the actuator and sprayed contact cleaner to the resistive track, put the actuator back together and refitted it. 3 years later and it still works perfectly. Definitely worth trying to remove your unit and clean it before buying a new unit.
