I had a job to do inside that plant early this year, man I can say one thing into building and making this plant...MONEY, and lots of it.

Seeing this video does make me feel good buying an American made vehicle. Before seeing it I was happy to buy American but seeing the people actually making it and the fact it made their local news is pretty cool. The plants make a big impact on the local economy and I’m happy to contribute.

I've had a fully loaded Platinum 4x4 ordered since August. Last I heard a week ago, there was still a delay on the Platinum models because they are waiting on the 22" premium wheels coming in. My dealer said it could be December before mine gets delivered. :-(

Edited 11/1/17 - I had a typo on the wheel size!

If your dealer told you that, that was most def not true as the plat dont even have 20" rims and theres no way to get 20" wheels on the plat model either. Ford built the dealer orders but they were held until the "ok to buy"(no mistakes in the production line) was given, which was on 10/27. The first dealer stock orders are now headed to the dealers and retail orders are now being scheduled and built.

It will be interesting to see how the aluminum change works out long term. I just read an article about the new lighter stronger steel alloys in automotive applications. I know Audi A8 is switching back to steel after experimenting with aluminum. In the case of crash damage ... will repairs be as widely available & do-able with aluminum as with steel?

there used to be a link to the KTP plant and lot cameras. We used it a few years ago to see the new super-duties lined up like cord wood waiting to be shipped.

as for alum, steel, composites etc. We will continue to see uses of all materials. its all advances and costs. interesting times they are

i read that to about 20" wheels...yep cant get em with a plat. standard is 22"
we all know dealers sales folks really only are concerned about what is sitting on the lot, not whats coming.

but i look everyday we pass our two dealers, just want to see one in the wild.

The article states starting price at $47,000. It is actually $52,000 starting price for a bare bones expy 4x2 with no options.

That was a typo on my part - I posted from my smartphone and the screen is crap at that size! The dealer did say 22" - the Expy would look odd with 20" wheels!! LoL!

Yea 22” wheels are completely useless in snow and off-road. Not to mention they look plain silly. Shouldn’t even be offered they reduce capability so much.

The tire diameter is the same as the 20" wheels. As long as you have good rubber, you are aren't going to have any problems driving in snow. If you are going for the 22" wheels you probably aren't doing a lot of off-roading to begin with and I would venture to guess that most of these trucks never leave pavement.

Ford says about 25% of expedition owners take their truck off road. But I agree nobody is taking platinums off road. Kind of why I buy trucks I’m not afraid to get dirty, because anything I own is for sure going off the beaten path and it’s working too.

In my case, I do drive down some gravel roads and across some fields but nothing rougher than that and I always wash it off afterwards because I hate having a dirty vehicle.

I guess I’m the exception to that rule but I opted for the Navi over platinum expy. 4x4 was high on our list of requirements as was comfort. We drive often on forest service roads and ford creeks and streams on these roads and private property. If the 22 inch wheels prove to be an issue I’ll just keep a set of smaller wheels with taller sidewalls for the extra dirty excursions.

That’s a great idea if you plan to off road. Not only to keep your rims in good shape, but 22” wheels lack enough sidewall to bite and grab traction in soft ground or ruts. They also tend to ride harder Off road compared to smaller rims. You can air down and use the tire as a ride softener on smaller rims as well since you have more rubber to absorb impact without damaging your rim. If you ever see the Z71 off road tahoes you’ll notice they usually run 17” or 18” rims because of this.
