Wife too the Expy Platinum to Costco two days ago. Winds were strong, and blowing around all of the shopping carts in the parking lot. She comes back to the car after shopping, with a shopping cart lodged in passenger side tail light. Glass shattered.

Took it to a local Geico body shop. That's an $1100 tail light. Comes complimentary with condensation. Good thing we have a low-deductible plan. Just thought I'd share.

Maybe send the bill to Costco and tell them their lot attendants were being negligent. A silver lining is that there is no paint work required and it's an easy swap of the taillight.

That sucks. Looks like they're charging you a few hundred for labor. New is $750 at Ford parts giant.

Actually the total claim cost is $2100. They determined a dent on the bumper too so they're repainting the whole bumper, some other diagnostic charges. Who knows, I'm just paying my deductible and (not)enjoying the rental Tahoe they gave me.

$2100? From a cart? Yikes. I hope Geico doesn't raise your rates next year.

I think parts prices will continue to increase as cars become more reliable. Electric cars have almost no maintenance and very few moving parts so it wouldn't surprise me their parts prices become stratospheric.

be careful what you ask for..... If they do a horrible job painting that bumper, you might wish you had the dent with good paint.... Just a thought.

Indeed. Do a paintless dent repair or if you can live with the dent leave it and pocket the extra dough to cover your new higher premiums.

......And you wonder why insurance companies are so quick to total. Saw a $85k CTS V with $20k in damage totaled. Not sure that makes sense to me, but who am I. Spoke to a body shop guy a few years ago. He said when ins. cos. see multiple air bag deployment, glass breakage, bumpers and a car more than four years old, they are quick to total. Sad state of affairs.

I asked Geico before agreeing to proceed with the claim. They stated it's treated as collision not-at-fault. Those claims don't get factored apparently.

Good point. I know the white pearl tricoat is a pain to match. Regardless, it's a lease that's going back in a year. I plan to buy a 2020 Expy to replace it in a color other than white most likely.

In the right light, you can see a slight color difference between my fender and front bumper. I have the White Platinum Tri-coat color on mine. It has not been noticeable enough to bug me, but I did notice it.

If you look closely enough at the factory paint job on any Ford vehicle painted in White Platinum Tri-coat, it will be very easy to spot the difference in color between the metal parts and the plastic parts (fuel filler door, bumper covers). It was especially obvious on our 2011 Lincoln MKX and the body shop manager passed it off as, "they're all like that." A quick walk through the new car lot proved him right. It's gotten better, but not equal to the Koreans that paint their much lower priced white pearl vehicles with imperceptible differences between parts.

Our 2016 was White Platinum Tri-coat and had a branch fall on it and needed to replace a taillight and fix a dent above it, so paint was involved. I was always able to see the difference. We love white and that is why for our 19 we chose oxford white this time. No qualms about going this direction and my F150 is the same color as well.

They make more money parting them out.

Don't think paint less dent repair works on plastic.

Did the owner of the $85,000.00 CTS-V receive a check from the insurance company for $85,000.00 - since the vehicle was declared a total loss?

I am sure that would depend on several things like the age and miles on the car, which insurance company (major or "high-risk"), coverage limits, deductibles, claims history, willingness of the insured to play "hardball" in negotiations. At any rate, if your car is totaled, you can expect to be shafted and nowhere close to being made whole again.
