So while a screen of this size can be distracting, is there a way to override the screen disabling some features for example so a passenger can use some of the features like android games?

I do not know about games but nav is not locked for the passenger to enter maps and locations. Car settings are locked.
For playing games you are way better off using a tablet for comfort and ergonomics.

Agreed. And they got smart, you need weight in the seat, not just the buckle fastened.
Built in nav can be overridden. Android auto and car play are locked. As are the in depth settings menus.
