I am trying to hardwire my dash cam to my fuse box. I have done this several times in other vehicles and used fuse taps.

This Expy uses the ABN micro fuses. No problem, right? They make fuse taps for that. BUT, my micro fuses are also RECESSED! The fuse tap will not plug in!

Does anyone know if they make an extender/extension or a fuse tap that is designed for a recessed fuse block? OR do you have another idea for how to tap into this?

I want to wire this so that the camera comes on when the Expy is started. I have a fuse already picked out, but am running into the recessed issue.

HELP!

Same problem I had. I never did find the right tap, so I just went old school and stuck a wire in while inserting the fuse. I wired mine to be powered all the time.

This is what I bought and it fit perfectly. I use it for my dash cam and RD.

MIRRORTAP POWER CORDS MirrorTap MTX-2010, DC Plug, 10" Long, Patented Radar Detector Power Cord With 2 Amp In-Line Fuse, Military Grade Taps, Made in USA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LBKR2SA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gzpvDbPXZJE2T

I got this for my radar detector. The tips insert into the rear view mirror terminal. Not sure what type of dc plug the cam has, if any, but you could cut it off and splice whatever you need into it.

That is what I am doing for now...and probably going forward. I have searched quite extensively and cannot find anything that will work. Interestingly, the seller of the tap I bought, mentioned in their product description that the tap would not fit recessed fuse blocks. I did not read that until after I purchased the taps, but would not have realized it until I tried anyway. Murphy hates me.

I moved my camera from my old 2001 Explorer to the 2015 Expedition and just used the same fuse tap. It wasn't a micro, but it fit into the panel, just stood a bit higher. Worked fine. The fuse panel cover doesn't fit back on the right way now though. So its not perfect.

Thank you for your reply. That link takes me to an ATM ATT low profile mini fuse tap. These are the taps that I bought:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BU59QA8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The description also says that these are ATM low profile mini fuses. But the fuses look different. OK, wait, I see the problem. The first picture that shows on the link you sent is not a low profile mini. Look at the second picture in that link. It describes three different fuse sizes. The third one in that picture is the low profile mini.

Here is a Wiki page that describes the different types of fuses. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuse_(automotive)

I am wondering if a mini fuse tap will fit in a low profile mini fuse slot? I think I have some. I might give that a try.

Thanks! I think that is what I am going to try...using a mini fuse tap in the low profile mini fuse slot.

Sorry, didn’t mean to leave you hanging. Yes, a mini tap will fit in a micro tap. The mini tap I linked was long enough to stick out of the recessed fuse box, but still fit in the micro slot.
