I came across some info about the DRLs vs 'Auto Lamps' They are different from one another. If I find the site again, I will post the link. I think my 1997 Expy might be a little old for the Auto Lamps system; it's standard on newer ones I think.

I say thanks to everyone too!

Here is the DRL module on my 1997 Expedition. It is visible through the hole in the bumper on the driver's side.
If all of the fuses etc. are good then it should be this unit that needs replacing (wreckers).

Mostly, I prefer to do the same (just turn on the headlights manually), but I still have a factory radio (which I actually like. I like real buttons, not LCD computer panels.) However, with the factory radio installed, when you turn on the headlights with the headlight switch manually (which also switches the alternator into high output mode), then it dims the factory radio LED panel. That is done so its not overly bright in the evening / night driving, but when it is dimmed in daylight hours by manually turning on the headlights, then you cannot read the display. One can fix that by just cutting the illumination control wire to the radio (and it will then always illuminate at the high setting). But illumination on high is during nighttime driving is annoying as well. So I put in the factory DRL setting. With 25W LED main headlight buibs, the alternator in "low" mode can keep up. Anyway, yeah, the switch works just fine, especially if you do not have the factory radio anymore. But it does not pass Canadian vehicle certification which requires a real DRL solution (factory or after market.)
