2000 Exp won't go into gear

My son came over today and his 2000 expedition got stuck in front of the house, it won't go into any other gear, stuck in drive. the lever is completly loose, it was dark so tomorrow Tuesday we are gonna tackle it, I hear there is a pin or plastic part that comes loose, he said he found a bolt on the flooor awhile back.

Suggestions or directions on how to are apprecitated.
