Good morning
I have a 2000 Expediton with the 4.6, it has always took a second to go into 1st gear when when I put it in drive. Recently though I now have to rev it to around 3k rpm for it to engage. It does not slip it just does not engage till I rev it a few time, also on down shift going back into drive sometimes I have to rev it. I do not know the last time the fluid was change but it does not smell burn and the tranny is full. Do I need a rebuild or ??? the vehicle has 230,*** miles I got it with with 211,*** on it and I do not know its history.

Welcome to the site and stop reving the motor to get the trans in gear. If you don't you will grenade a planetary gear set inside the trans and increase the cost of the reman trans that you need.
