My 2000 Expedition 4.6L has been idling really rough, and sometimes dying when it comes to a complete stop. After reading a bunch of threads, most people were saying it could possibly be the EGR Valve, or the EGR sensor, or the IAC valve. I have replaced all three. The rough idle is alot better, but sometimes (not always) it still dies when I am coming to a stop. Does anyone have an idea where to look now? I feel like I am running out of options. Any help will be much appreciated.

How many miles on the expy?

You may want to clean the exhaust ports that go thru the throttle body. Those ports and well know to clog up on the 4.6 engine. Some good videos on youtube about cleaning them. You will need to remove the throttle body and it also requires two gaskets and some throttle body cleaner.

Check the hoses that connect to the DPFE.

Refer to that attached link

Thanks Roxy1225. My Expedition has 108 K on it. I think I have may found the problem. Reading some other threads, some mentioned the pcv valve. I got a replacement, and when I was installing it, I noticed that the pcv valve elbow had a hole in it. I also read that these are notorious for going out. I just ordered a replacement this morning. Maybe that explains why I was not getting any error codes. I will give an update if that solves the problem. If not, I will try your suggestions. I appreciate your help.

Agree with the pcv elbow. You could also get a can of carb cleaner and spray around the vacuum hoses to see if you have any other leaks. if you find a leak it will show up by an increase in rpm's

With that amount of mileage You should pull the throttle body and clean the ports.

Again check the videos on you tube and you will see how bad they can get. My previous 4.6 was totally clogged and it had about 125k miles on it Same thing on a friends 99 with 4.6 and about the same millage.

PCV Elbow helped, but still rough.

Hi Roxy1225,
The PCV elbow helped, and the car seems to be running better and not dying at stops. However, what is weird is that the RPMs are fine in Drive, but if I put it in Neutral, then the fluctuating RPM issue comes back. I think it can't hurt to clean the ports. I will give it a shot.

Check the hoses that go to the DPFE refer to the information I posted earlier also clean out the Exhaust ports that go thru the throttle body and check the operation of the egr valve.

Are you getting a check engine light and if so have you had the codes read?
