2000 expedition runs rough at times, then runs great!

Yeah a lil frustrating. Last night I thought it might die on me, it was that bad. Other times it runs perfect. Very sporadic behavior. Has new spark plugs, new fuel filter, clean air filter, cleaned the MAF sensor. Saw on here somewhere where cleaning an EGR? device up by the throttle body might be the solution. If so can someone give detail on the job?
At times with this problem the service engine light comes on as well.
Any help greatly appreciated folks!

Might also want to check the cats, if they become clogged they can cause some of the symptoms you described. Also might want to change the pcv valve, cheap part, can't hurt.

See if you can get the CEL to come on and have your local auto parts store throw a scan tool on it. See what kind of codes they can pull and post the results for us.

Thanks all. I pulled the IAC and cleaned it yesterday. Truck is running great, no CEL, We'll see if it stays that way.

I've got a code reader so next time it does it Ill pull the codes.
