2001 Eddie Bauer Edition with separate front and back heaters. Front blows room temperature even on highest heat setting. Back blows good hot air. if it matters, temperature gauge never seems to go above halfway.

Most likely a blend door problem. We are all going through this with you. If you have a stethoscope listen to the plenum box down by the blend motor while you turn the temp control. It should take a 5 or 7 seconds and normally, you would hear some whirring and a plastic door closing at the extremes. You might hear whirring or plastic bits grinding together (or nothing I suppose). Even a piece of heater hose makes a good listening device for this. Good news, the parts are cheap!

More than likely your front heater core is clogged up. Big job to replace. you could chance flushing it. Was the front heater core ever replaced?
