Hey all, I have a 2003 E/B and I am wanting to make the exhaust louder, I love loud exhaust. I was curious if I could just take the muffler out and add a glass pack? I know some other modifications would be needed. But could I theoretically just swap the muffler out with a straight-through glass pack? Thanks everyone.

I have that. Its a 26" glasspack i think from Cherry Bomb. Works well for me, and is a cheap alternative to getting custom exhaust. Also sounds pretty good. Only thing is that it is a little hard to find the perfect match. I had to refab my tailpipe to fit back over the axle. Wasn't hard and dont let that scare you, just wanna give you a heads-up.

FordandPolaris,

Can you send me a soundclip of it or post on here? Also, what modifications are you talking about doing, just so I know? I can do a lot with working on vehicles but just so I know before I tackle the job. Thanks!

I will try and make a sound clip tomorrow, and will post it here when i have it ready. Its not super loud because the cats are still in place, and the stock pipe does not allow for much echo. You will probably have a little popping (which is unavoidable with glasspacks) but by getting a longer one, you can minimize that. However the longer it is, the quieter it will be. Also, they don't start off sounding spectacular, but once they are broken in, which takes about 3 months, they sound a lot more like just straight pipe exhaust, except they are a legal muffler in most states. I don't know if DC does emissions testing? If so keep the old muffler and just swap that back in when it comes time...

I had to completely refab my tailpipe behind the glasspack because the glasspack was a little shorter than the muffler, and so it sat too close to the rear tire and bounced off of the axle. After about 6 trips to O-Reilly's to buy the right pipe fittings, i got it all to work, otherwise if you really want it loud, just drop a turndown at the end of the g-pack and dump the exhaust! That's what I should have done from the start. I will get pics and post them tomorrow.

My guess is you'll definitely have to add piping since the stock muffler is huge. Don't remember how much was added for my 18" Maggy, but I do remember some had to be added.

I guess this is the only picture I have of when they were putting it on.

Here are some of the pictures of the exhaust i have underneath right now. Glasspack has been in there a little over a year now. I have a vid of the sound, just need to get it off my brother's phone. Will post it when he comes home.
