2003 EB OEM Nav/stereo issue

We have the factory nav system in our recently purchased 03 Eddie Bauer.
First the soft button for audio on the head unit won't access the speaker functions so I can't set the speaker adjustments or set treble/base adjustments. Is it possible to spray and clean the soft button.
On the steering wheel controls the +volumn button works but not the -volumn button. Is it possible to spray under it with contact cleaner?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't spray anything anywhere...the cover should come off on steering wheel but im not sure if u have to take the steering wheel cover off to get to it
