2003 rear bumper cover inner supports

I have a 2003 expedition that was hit in the rear end, the only damage was to the rear passenger side of the bumper. I got a replacement out of a junk yard, but the inner supports that mount it to the quarter panel were almost non existent due to rust. I can not find these things anywhere. I did find some for a 2012 though, and they look pretty similar. Does anyone know if they would work? I'm fairly comfortable modifying them if need be, I just don't want to spend the money on them if I'm going to end up having to fab something up anyway.
