I get 18-19 on the highway with my '06 Expy. I had an '05 Explorer with the 4.6 in it and I got between 18-20 on the highway. The second gen Expeditions ride a lot better than the second gen Explorers. If you were talking about '08 -'10 Explorers, they ride much better than the '02-07's. In the end, get what works for you and your family the best. But I have not looked back since I traded the Explorer in for the Expy.

Im sure either would work, but it would be nice having the extra room that the explorer doesn't give you. The wife really liked the power folding 3rd row since she hated putting the explorer one up and down

It is nice. Especially when you need the space. The flat floor is also nice, emergency bed if needed. Expedition is big enough for that. The exploder isn't.

That is true and we were actually joking about that. We are going to little sahara Oklahoma in may to ride our atv's. I said we should just get a bunch of blankets and lay both rows down and sleep in it instead of a tent or get one of thoughs air matresses for the back. Get some screen mesh and somehow put it over the windows so we can have the windows down without getting bugs and stuff inside.

If your close to a gas station and don't mind the money, roll up the windows, pop the hood for the heat and run the a/c.

Either way, the Expedition is more for the money and a lot better of a ride. Everyone will be comfortable and luggage will fit. (If you have the rear seats down) With the Expedition EL I can have all three rows up and fit all the lugage still, but it is just me and my daughters so I have A LOT of room. LOL

Yeah luggage isn't a huge concern as it is just my wife, our 3 kids and I. We normally don't go anywhere that needs a lot of luggage, just an overnight bag for us. It would be nice to have the extra room though if its the same gas mileage wise too

Just retest drove it and it drives great. Brought it to my work to crawl under and check everything out. It makes a little ticking type sound, but they just had the cam sensors changed so maybe thats it? Sounds the same on both sides, so it could be just the injectors too I am guessing.
The only problem was the passenger side seat doesn't go up or down, just makes a super loud EEERRRR sound, plus the heat or ac seat didn't work. I will address that with them and see if they will fix it.
It has service records with it halfy. It does show the fuel filter and trans flush at 30K and the fuel again at 90K. They showed the invoice for the cam sensors and it was 1541. I will look at it but I believe it also said something about timing things. I will see if they will give me a copy of it so I can report back what all it says

Ok it had done...

Timing Sensor arm - 2
timing guide - 2
crankshaft front seal - 1
camshaft sensor - 2
ht1/spark plugs - 8
valve cover gasket set - 1
motor oil
timing chain - 2
oil filter

Then they also changed an ignition coil on it also.

Going to be talking to my bank today and see if they will give us a loan for it, if not we might let the dealer find financing for us. Just hate doing that as our credit can get dinged big time if a bunch of people try and qualify us

Ok we got qualified. So now the question is do we want a 4 year 48K mile warranty? It covers everything but wear and tear items. It would cost an additional 1700 for it to bring the total to about 14K and payments around $265 instead of $230 without it.

Is there anything that is known to go wrong after 118K til say 200K that would be worth buying the warranty?

if you do get the warranty make sure to find out what is considered normal wear and tear. some warranties try and qualify things as normal wear and tear that are not. and btw as far as credit score, rate shopping for loans for mortgages or autos is counted as 1 inquiry for more info look at this site

We went and picked it up today at lunch. The wife is happy, which makes me happy lol. We didn't get the warranty, so now its just about figuring out why the passenger heated seats wont work (hoping its just the plug came loose) and why the front of the seat wont go up and down....its stuck ALL the way up
