2005 expedition lost performance 3 weeks after purchase.

I purchased a 2005 ford expedition Eddie Bauer with 72,000 miles on it. When I test drove it at the dealer with my wife it drove like a bat out of hell and burning rubber at any stop light and the pick up would sit you back in your seat. I filled it up with Shell 89 and it was still hauling around like it was on premium, getting to 120 mph on the dashboard was a breeze. I filled up the other day with BP when it was empty using 93 octane and truck drove horrible meaning it was extremely sluggish like I put 87 octane in it. I said hmmm lets see what the issue is here so I went to Chevron and filled her up with 93 octane and when I tried to overtake someone on the highway it was like the Over drive was non-existent, there was absolutely no torque. No it is not giving any codes. It is running full synthetic oil. I have not checked the spark plugs yet. My wife told me she put the shell back in it and the truck is hauling like when we first bought it. I test drove the expedition and I did not feel any difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Going to a higher octane won't help performance unless the vehicle is tuned for it. So running 93 in a vehicle designed for 87 or 89 will only hurt performance. It sounds like it's a combination of too high octane and possibly bad gas. Step back down to 87 or 89.

Your truck should shift out of overdrive when you try to pass someone. It's not meant to be a passing gear.

Pretty much. The most I'd try would be 89.

Also, the PCM does adjust to your driving style (a little bit). If you drive aggressive all the time, it'll eventually adjust the shifts and give you a little more pep. Of course, it isn't anything drastic.

I never buy gas from BP. Seems like their gas always runs weird in my truck. I stick with Holiday gas whenever I can.

Thanks for the suggestions and the lesson. I will try a bottle of heet in the tank then fill it up with premium and then go from there. I will let you guys know how it plays out.

I have seen bullitens from Ford,GM and Chrysler and everyone of them say the same thing, high octane (89 and 93) are a rip-off. Most every carline states that the money spent is a scam and does not help the performance of a car unless the car is programmed for the premuim fuel. It sounds as if the fuel you bought from the BP might of had some water in it. So if it was me I would change the Fuel Filter just in case some trash was also in the gas

Well guys I poured a bottle of heet water remover in the tank and put $20 of premium in the tank and the beast I first purchased 3 weeks ago is now back
