Today it suddenly started running really rough. Took it to Autozone and they found codes P0022, P0018, P0300, P0305, P0307, P0308

183,496 miles I've had it since mid 2018. I've never changed spark plugs, don't know if previous owners have.

Is this one that's a huge pain to change spark plugs on? Likely that's all it needs?

Edit: Watched a video, doesn't look to be too much bother with them up on top. Ordered a kit with 8 coils and 8 plugs on Amazon, should have them tomorrow. RockAuto was higher $ for their cheapest and the quickest they could get here was the 13th with almost $60 shipping. I'll still have to buy tools or find someone to do the job. Sucks being broke down away from home where I have tons of tools.

P0305, P0307, and P0308 are all driver's side misfires. This sounds like a failing timing setup or valvetrain. When was the last timing job done? Also, be sure to use Motorcraft plugs SP546X. Other brand or aftermarket plugs are common sources of poor performance. Likewise with non-Motorcraft COPs. Motorcraft COPs rarely go bad, but the connector on the engine harness does go bad (the rubber sealing rings inside the connector fail and cause a poor connection).

An 07 with that kind mileage it could be a challenge on plug removal if they are original. The plug design makes them easier to break when removing. You'll want compressed air to clean out the deep plug wells before removal. If the plugs come out in one piece, the change out is fairly straight forward.

I'll second on the aftermarket parts on this one. I inherited coils from amazon that came with an 07 I had just bought. One of them failed after fairly low miles at about 6 months, then 3 or 4 weeks later another failed. Replaced everything with OEM.

That is a lot of codes to have at the same time. There might be something more serious than coils and plugs but its a logical choice to start there, especially with the mileage and lack of history.

P0022 & P0018 are both Bank 2 camshaft position codes, which correspond to your P0305, P0307 & P0308 codes.

Timing chain(s) would be my guess.

The way it runs I suspect the driver's side timing has jumped a tooth. How far can it jump before valves hit pistons? Not going to run it again until I replace the timing stuff. I assume changing the oil and water pumps while it's apart would be a good idea.

I'm at my ex brother in law's house doing some renovation work so I have no tools. Anyone in the Boise, ID area on the forum? I can get parts from Amazon in a couple of days.

Are all the engines the same in the 2007 or are there differences depending on which factory made the engine? There was a Hot Rod article on TFS heads for the 2V engine, it mentioned several differences depending on if the engine was US or Canadian built.

If I can't fix it here I'll load up my tools etc then call AAA to haul it home.
