I have an 08 EB with the upgraded? sound system... It has a sub in the back driver side panel and the multi disc basic head unit and my display on it is crapping out. So I would like to get a aftermarket stereo (that is not big $$$) that will be plug and play (with the harness adapter) and be able to retain the steering wheel controls and have at least as good of sound as the factory head unit. Am I asking to much? I'm sure that there has to be some options but I would like to hear from someone that has actually done it.

The picture I have attached is what I have now.

I have that very same radio in my 2013 and the display often fades out. It is a known problem as solder on some chip resistors, large black ones if I recall, have cold solder joints. You can remove the radio, remove the front control panel and resolder them easily. I have been procrastinating. But you can press the panel around the display and the vacuum florescent display (VFD) will light back up. I press mine above and to the right of the CD function button. You can find a repair on You-tube. Simpler to repair than find a compatible after market radio.

In a 737 aircraft BOEING has helpfully marked with a cross the location of the circuit connectors that sometimes get erratic and cause lighting of the control panel to fail. Just press at the cross mark and fly on. You can find your sweet spot and likewise put a white cross mark there to impress pilots.

I have an 07 EB that had the audiophile option with nav and satellite radio. I changed the radio because I wanted back up camera and Android auto. I bought a Boss elite with a harness that had the CANBUS (I think that's what it's called) that retained factory steering wheel controls. Had to buy another separate harness for the third piece to use my factory sub, and an adapter with the sirius tuner so I can use the factory antennas without running a separate one for them. Works great! Pic of it installed with a random pic blocking the Waze location (silly me)

Also removed the sockets and replaced with two USB ones that I connected to the ACC side of relay in passenger side footwell so things turn on when I turn the key and don't have to worry about draining battery! Would recommend for sure
