2008 Expedition EL stuck in park

Hi all,

Hoping someone can shed some insight. I have a 08 expedition EL limited with 127k bought it 2 yrs ago with 86k.

Anyways truck is stuck in park (I can bypass w/screwdriver) since early this week. So this a.m. brake lights now don't work, so I picked up new brake light switch and some bulbs 4157.

Still no Brake lights all 3 aren't turning on/still stuck in park. I tried another brake light switch and still nothing

When I turn on my hazards I notice the right side isn't blinking/also no right rear bulb when I turn alarm on.

Any idea of what to troubleshoot next?

Did you check the fuse for the brake light?

Brake pedal position sensor? That's often the culprit on the 3rd gens.

Check fuse #31 in the battery junction box (under hood) using either a volt meter or test lamp.

Preferably a volt meter as that will show actual voltage

I had this same issue with my 08 EL. It was the brake pedal position sensor that needed to be replaced.

It ended up being the brake light Switch.

Not sure why the one from autozone didn't work tried 2 different ones(wells)

the one from ford worked like a charm.

They only plug in one way so I don't think I was putting it backwards etc

I had trouble with the original switch on my 04 replaced it with one from advanced auto and it did not work The problem was that the contacts in the new switch ware not making Took the switch apart and slightly bent the switch arms so the would make contact Haven't had a problem since So your part from autozone could have had the same problem
