On Monday I backed out of the driveway. It sputtered and I put it in drive and coasted out down my hill to the intersection. It sounded different so I tried to turn around and get home. The timing snapped and I could hear the metal clanging like a dinner bell. it died 50 ft from my house. On Friday I was told it was the left bank and the pistons probably damaged the valves. My guy said he will know for sure on Monday but it probably needs a new engine. I have a loan and need to explore rebuild options.
Remanufactured options start at $2800 before shipping and core charge. I feel if damage is limited I might be able to save on a rebuild and pulling something from a yard or finding a similar vehicle might just be buying the same problems next summer.
When I look up and down these threads, I have had all of the same symptoms with ticking, missing, "the wrench", oil not cooling off, no starts, just like everyone here. If all your codes point to something, eventually it is going to be the timing. GET IT LOOKED AT ASAP!!!!!!
Now for me. Any tips? Rebuild over new engine? Are there other sources out there that might have some cheaper paths? I am desperate and need any advice anyone has to offer.
