2014 Expedition

Hi got a 2014 Expedition V8 just over a month ago. …52 K miles. Got it because we have extended family living with us and wanted a 7 passenger vehicle; also would like to pick up a camper and wanted to be able to tow with all the passengers.

Couple of problems ….chemical smell if start the car with AC on. Goes away in a few minutes. Make sure I don’t leave AC on when turning off the car seams to work but would like to know why it happens and how to fix.

Other problem…getting water on passenger side near top of door in heavy rain. Noticed worst today after day of continuous heavy rain. Read thread of similar problems…may be associated with clogged roof window drain.

The smell may be anti-freeze. Might be an idea to check your coolant.

It could be the water/mildew that sits in the evaporator when the AC is off and it smells until the evaporator gets cold the next time you use it. I had this smell with my home AC system and had the coil cleaned with a chemical spray. It was more pronounced when the AC was not running as much during cooler weather but during hot weather the AC cycled more frequently and the smell was less noticeable each time it started

With the AC on, do you see a good bit of condensation drainage onto the ground from the passenger side firewall area ? Drain pipe might be clogged up and holding water in the HVAC box and promoting algae and mold in the box and on the evaporator. Clear the drain tube. You can get a long-ish tube and spray some cleaner up into the tube to kill the mold and algae if it's in there.

Is your blower acting up?

Also, could be melting plastic smell? Check blower motor harness and resistor harness under the passenger dash.
