I have had my expedition for about a month and a half and love it. Unfortunately, we have only put about 700 miles on it. I have noticed two things that seem a bit weird and was wondering if anyone else has experienced these issues and found a fix.

First, the liner in the cup holder in the front by the shifter, is not set well and comes out when you pull you cup or can out of it. I am going to try Velcro, but not sure how this ever passed QC at Ford.

Second, the sunglass holder by the rear view mirror gets very hot, to the point it is heating up my Oakley's where it burns to put them on. The rubber ear pieces are actually staring to get sticky from being so hot. I am going to try an stuff some in foil and foam on the top part, but honestly and again, do they test these things out.

Bonus issues - I agree with a few posts on here about the rear hatch button being poorly designed and hate the fact you can not open the hatch by pressing the button if you have the remote in your pocket.

Welcome, approaching 30K on my 2008 myself. Awesome username BTW - the Ecoboost haters here probably won't like it...

I'd be willing to bet somebody complained to Ford that cupholder inserts are too hard to get out to clean or too hard to remove when you want to use a bigger cup. See if you can get into a habit of either slightly rotating or slightly tilting your drink forward/backward/to the side when removing. Slightly is the key word. Pulling your drink strait up will bring the insert along everytime, especially on a cup that sweats. Its all in the angle of the departure. I haven't accidentally removed my insert in years, but new passengers do on occasion.

Sunglasses. Consider getting all your windows tinted. Front, sides, back. Interior temperatures will be dramatically lower. Factory smoked glass is just that - colored glass like that used in brown or green beer bottles or blue office buildings. A layer of film (be it clear or tinted as dark or light as you like) will block UV-A and UV-B rays, radiant and infrared heat, and reduce glare. Your interior, shades, and skin will thank you. 3M and Llumar both make a 50-state legal clear film if added privacy (and looks) isn't for you.

I'm not sure I understand the hatch concern. If you have your intelligent keyless start fob thing in your pocket, the dash-mounted power liftgate button is somehow rendered in-op? If so, that is dumb.

I bought a new 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4.

The cupholder liner on mine does the same thing - poor quality by Ford.

I have never used the sunglass holder - but I do use the conversation mirror often.

The power rear hatch can be opened with the FOB in your pocket by pushing the button on the inside of the outside hatch handle IF the doors are unlocked (by using the FOB, the five-digit keypad, or the vehicle is parked with the doors unlocked). I'll have to read the manual again but I think the power open switch in the rear handle times-out after 10 minutes of non-use.

I am 5'10" tall and cannot reach the oil level dipstick without using a stool (without scratching the fender.......). The first time I used it I realized the oil level dip stick and tube should be longer. Very inconvenient on a trip when I want to check the oil level while fueling the vehicle. Another poor design feature.

I've got a 2011 and yes, the cupholder inserts do come out if you put something in there that just fits. I have not had any issues with the sunglass holder getting hot.

Flexpedition the windows are tinted, I think the heat is radiating from the roof. There does not appear to be much insulation between the roof and the interior of the sunglass holder. I think its just a poor design on the newer Expedition.

Also, the issue with the rear hatch has to do with not being able to walk up to the vehicle, while locked, and being able to just push the rear button to have it open. In other words it should have a prox reader that recognizes the key and then releases the hatch when you push the button. This is standard on most push button cars for their trunks. It does not unlock the entire car, just opens the back end.

Lastly, thanks for the tips on the cup holder.

I have a 2000 and have he same thing happen with the cupholders, but cannot comment on the other issues.

But on the cupholder thing, never bothered me becuase it makes sense, out of curiosity, when you use a rubber, do you expect it to stay with your partner or you? LOL!

One thought for the cupholders is to install a set of flat magnets on the console and another set on the bottom of the rubber insert. This way you will have to exert a bit more force in order to remove them, but they'll still be easily removable for cleaning.

I have a 2015 Limited and we have the sunglasses holder but not the conversation mirror. We never use the sunglasses holder and I would really like the conversation mirror and was hoping that they could swap them easily but my dealer said that they don't make the conversation mirror anymore??? And they about the same size where the sun glasses holder could pop out and the mirror pop in?
