Well I appear to be the first to have had this happen and now I see I'm not the last. My 17 had this happen, where the two screens would flash off for 5 seconds on for 1 and repeat. Diagnosed as bad cluster. I purchased a low miles replacement cluster from LKQ and had a local cluster repair shop program/clone the config from the original to the replacement. But they could not get the miles to update (increase in my case from 17k to 56k). I ended up sending the cluster away to a place in Colorado who was able to correct the miles ($89 plus shipping one way). It meant I was down a vehicle for a week+ but everything is accurate again. My total cost was around $400 including new cluster and programming (cloned by one company and miles corrected by another). I believe the dealer will bend you over to the tune of $12-1400 as they only install new zero mileage clusters, which are expensive.
The funny thing is, the dealers can't alter the mileage in the new clusters, they send them away to somebody else for that, or just put a sticker on the B pillar indicating the cluster was swapped and the mileage of the swap. I didn't want that option or the expense so I handled it myself.
