I am new to this forum and new to Ford. Picked up my 2017 Expedition in March and still breaking it in. Only issue I have had has been a very minor, but annoying rattle or tapping sound coming from the front drivers door and occasionally the front passenger's side. This would happen closing the door and going down the road.

These rattles would occur mostly at speeds under 40 mph. Figured it was something in the pillar or related to the speaker cables in the door. Searches for 2005 - 2007 Expeditions here and on the web turned up nothing, but found a ton of useful info searching for 2011 and newer F150's that share components.

So, a heads up to anybody who is searching for a solution to this issue. I found it to be incredibly simple to fix (thankfully):

There is a small plastic cover behind the interior door handles that hides a screw. You can see the it clearly after pulling the handle back to open the door. This little cover rattles very easily when tapped with a finger and when closing the door or driving. I tried a little strip of black gaffer's tape across the top of the cover and the problem appears to be solved. Then applied it behind all four interior door handles, some covers were much looser than others.

Hope this is of use to anyone searching for similar fix and I hope you find it before having the door panel removed searching for another location. thumb.gif

I'll be checking this today, just bought a used 2017 XLT w/201A and I have a list of small things I have to get the dealer to check on under warranty at that was one of them!

Another was the trim on the rear passenger window at the bottom seems to be coming loose on the back part, and I have a VERY noisy vent (loud whistling sound) on the passenger side when on defrost with the fan on anything over 50% speed.

Wow, sure is decent of you for going through the registration process just to help out total strangers.....see, there still are a lot of good people left in the world!

I've got well over 12K on my '17 Expy and frankly, have been amazed that it hasn't developed a single rattle yet but I'll check out those covers just to be sure!

thanks for the heads up!

Welcome to the forum! Thanks for the heads up. I will be checking them today. I guess one of the benefits of getting older is hearing loss and not noticing things like that any more. :D

I was getting some air noise from the driver's door that was very noticeable on the highway. I noticed that the top edge of the door was up so I took it to the dealer's body shop and in about 15 minutes they had adjusted the door. I was amazed how quiet the truck got after that. I could actually lower the radio and still hear it at the 5 volume setting.
