I'm glad Ford decided to invest in the retooling because I think with the new 3.5 engine & matched transmission, Ford is going to find a lot more sales.
I owned two older expy's and both powertrains had their "issues" as did the trucks. We all know about the head-gasket, rust, spark plugs(both access & breakage on some years), water leakage & electrical issues.
Word got out and people got wise. I think that is what has caused Fords Expy sales to plummet in comparison to the competition. Yes, the competition has their share of issues but only very rarely are the engine/tran related. They seem to be more suspension/wheel issues...a lot cheaper than a head gaskets or plug extractions(that engineer should be shot).
My opinion is that most of us that buy used Expy's are the guys that know how to work on their own cars/trucks/motorcycles and we aren't afraid of dealing with some things.
When they run right, we'd probably all agree that they are great trucks. Strong, powerful and absolute beasts in the deep snow...and not bad looking in their own right.
I have to admit that upon seeing the large moon roof, my first thought was "gee, if they can't keep the small one watertight over the test of time, how will they manage that with the big panel".
That aside, I'm sure that you guys who but one of the '18's when they become available will enjoy them as much as anyone who buys a new car or truck does! Hopefully, in ten years, they will be running as well as they do new!

They did add a lot of tech not available now....I like the idea of emergency braking should something happen to the driver but are any of us that dumb not to realize that we aren't in our own lane? That must be for those still death-texting while driving I guess??
So instead of disabling the text feature on the phone, they lower the bar to help the texter? Just my opinion.....but I like to be able to spot the texter in traffic....it's always obvious...the big spaces they leave in front of them, the drifting all over the place...should be easy pickins for LEO's. All they have to do is pull them over and ask to see their phone...if not, leave them with a warning and if so, write 'em up!

They turned The Expedition into a sissy SUV. I liked that the 1st Gen Expedition, was more like a truck. Now, it is a grocery getter, for women. It sits way too low. The running boards, look like they are wrong size. They hang way too low. I hate the knob gear shift. The front end is boring and should look more like the F150, not the Explorer. The bottom air dam, looks as low as car. How will that do in deep snow? It looks like the ugly, Tahoe, from the side. No diesel or V8? I do not want to pay for Wifi or Sync. I have been nursing my old model, waiting for this re-design. Man... what a disappointment!

there are only 4 full sized suvs, 11 if you include the luxe utes. that number goes down to 9 since two of those are unibodies. none of the suvs except the sequoia and armada to an extant looks anything like its truck equivalent they all have the same side profile, just difference with windows and beltines. all do have v8s exept the ford suvs, but will be somehow compromised in some other way. you get a v8 thats slower or get a sc v8 with a crazy high price point, to get off road ability (high ride height) youll have to get rougher ride or air springs. none of the non luxe utes except the tahoe even offers solid rear axle.

In my opinion (for whatever that is worth), Expy sales have been falling mainly because of lack of updates and lack of new Tech! In the last 5 to 7 years the number of items that used to be highend money making options have become standard on so many other manufactures that the Expy has become lacking plus it needed a face lift. Basically, many of the known problems with engine and tranny went away when the first new Ecoboost and its tranny arrived (I had a 2016 loaner last time my '03 was in the shop and the Ecoboost with the 6 speed was truly amazing, I could pull out in traffic almost as if it was our Thunderbird when driving the 2016 Expy). So lack of a facelift and tech really started to weigh on sales. Again, in my opinion.

Does anybody know if the Front End is identical enough to the 2017 F-150 that F-150 aftermarket items will be direct matches to the 2018 Expy? It is nearly impossible to get bumpers and brush guards for the second generations because of how few there are, how old they are now, and because they didn't mirror their companion F-150s.
I am beginning to wonder why have 4H and 4L other then maybe snow as the 2018 Expy looks very low and not well suited to leaving the pavement sort of like that one Grand Cherokee that had the "Warrantee Void is taken off-road" sticker on the dash. I need an SUV that can handle rough gravel roads and some dirt roads that are fairly rutted. My 2003 handles most of them in 4H and there are 2 places I need 4L. The front end of the new Expy reminds me of when the Dodge Durango turned into a 4 wheel drive mini-van.

the expy wont share anything with the 17 f150, howver if you look at the 18 f150, they have a very similar front clip and looks to share a few parts as well, such as hood. once the after market truck parts start to be distributed, im sure things will start being rolled out for the ezpy (if it sells well). idk if ppl will like it or not as im not a off roader, but the exply will now come with a electronic diff locker. as for the 4h, i would think the terrain management system dictates the engine speed for the settings separately, where as 4h was just hit the gas and go type thing, probably to prevent unnecessary wear on the crazy sophisticated drivetrain. as for engine swap, im sure the engine could be tuned or swapped, but idk of the old expy would be large enough to hold the 10sp.

What I was asking is if the 2018 F-150 frontend is identical enough to the 2018 Expedition frontend so a winch bumper brush guard compatibility chart would show it fits '18 F-150/'18 Expedition? I thought I read someplace that they were the same underneath and mounting point wise but I searched the Internet and can't find it now. Probably want that to be true so bad I dreamed it!

I 'know' they have mounting points for a brush guard, bull bar, or push bars plus there 'will' be accessories for the Gen 4 Expy, the point I am getting at is that if the front ends are identical then the tons of accessories being designed and made for 2017 F-150s 'would' also be available for the Expy making the prices lower, more choices, and parts available long after the Gen 5 Expy comes out.
hopefully the sales of the 4th gen expy drives the third party market to make more aftermarket parts since even the current gen models are sorely lacking and they been out for 10 yrs.
idk if i should wait for the king ranch version to come out or just get a limited. i always liked the king ranch version of these trucks.
