Assuming will get you nowhere. Look at the stock MC plug vs the NGK recommended in several threads on here. There is a BIG difference.

Yep, the colder NGK is what I recommend, even stock. Difference is gap. Run the stock gap, if not tuned.
Can you provide the NGK part number please?

I developed a rare shudder at 25,000 miles. With research I saw threads where the spark plugs had excessive gaps at 40 to 50,000 miles. So, being cheap enough and easy enough I decided to change my plugs. I did go with the standard heat range as I do not have a tune. This took less than one hour. Plugs looked a little black/rich but the electrode was gray. All gaps were between .030 and .031. A little residue on the threads, but all in all Probably a waste of time. The shudder was so rare that I won’t know for a while if it fixed it. Next change interval will be 50,000 miles. The plugs I pulled out were Ford CYFS12YPCT. The boots looked perfect, as expected at such low mileage.

I have said this before and will say it again. Tightening the gap a little to say .029, and going one heat range lower will only have positive results, even without a tune, especially if you drive hard, and under higher load(like towing). Wouldn't go any tighter than 29 on stock tune.

Yeah, stock, light load, I think 50K is a decent interval, especially for the NGK's. Tuned or tow often, I would recommend 30K for best results. The factory 100K is ridiculous!

Bringing this thread back up real fast, instead of creating a new topic. Good on the plugs, but recently read some articles talking about long term reliability and things that should be done on these 3.5's. One item that seems to creep up a lot is ignition coil longevity and issues. Is it worth replacing the coils on these say every 60k? I've certainly had previous vehicles that needed new coils every 60-75k miles. Just curious. Also, anyone tried some aftermarket stuff like these: https://aipelectronics.com/products...ator-3-5l-turbocharged-v6-replaces-hl3z12029a

the stock ones are quite a bit more expensive than those.
