I have the same issue. I'm also getting the clunk sound on downshifts. Low speeds and slow downshifts in my hilly neighborhood are almost a daily occurrence. I have a 2019 with 26K miles. I have noticed that it upshifts to 6th gear quickly at low speeds and doesn't downshift to a lower gear without additional pedal input. If you manually take it down to 3rd or 4th gear it drives normally. I plan a road trip in early June and will be contacting the dealer this week to see if anything can be done. I have been reading lately about similar issues with others here.

I took my 2018 Expedition Limited back to the dealership several times for the same exact issue. So many times for the same issue that I can no longer count it!! They also replaced the cam phaser and did several software updates. Same issue just came back over and over again. Finally, I got it diagnosed correctly at Grieco Ford in Delray Beach. You may not want to hear this but it is the Transmission. The torque converter was defective and needed to be replaced. I’m past warranty so the cost was $1800!! Worse., they say it’s a prevalent problem with this series. Ford has not responded to my complaint letter. If they do, I will post here. More than anything I want you to know that torque converter repair definitely fixed the problem and it is never occurred again.

I heard that the auto shut off restart can be a problem as when the car restarts, it starts in gear. I mentioned to someone that I am 100% sure the cost to replace the starter would be more than the little gas the auto shut off would save.. That is when I was told about the start in gear torque converter issue. I purchases a auto stop delete for less than $100 that prevents the shutoff. Easy unplug, plug in at the auto shutoff switch

So I had the cam phaser job done also they supposed tore engine down and fixed it that worked for a while it now makes a new noise on start up but I think I read where it can affect the transmission when they. Break down the engine ? I don’t know I love the room and the ride just sad I have issues . I push the remote engine button and the radio comes on lol
