I happened to see this last night.. https://www.4dtech.com/ Guy did a 4' to 8" swap with Sync3 on an F150... don't know the cost comparison just thought it was a very clean swapout. Depending on the cost, it may be a wash.

Please expand on what you’re doing......

He is referring to swapping from 4” to 8” factory systems.
Infotainment puts together a complete plug and play kit.

The answer to the question for 2015-present is infotainment is your only option at the moment.

Linkswellinc.com makes a Tesla style android unit for the F150s. I contacted them to see about an Expedition unit. I was told they had begun development but are having difficulty being able to control the rear climate controls and have not gotten much contact in regard to interest in Expedition units so they have stopped devoting resources to it.

I posted a little while ago hoping folks would contact them showing interest and maybe we’ll see them make something.

For the time being I plan on building a piggyback system using an Android head unit and making a dashpod in the center tray on the dash. I have outlined my plans here

Just have had zero time to start mocking up the pod to determine if it will be too obtrusive in the dash.
I have a 16 and the 18 dash is slightly different but the same idea.

What is cheap? I hope you don't mind me asking.

A $200 or so Android headunit mounted in a pod on the dash piggy backed (aux line in) to the factory system. Is the cheapest route.
Infotainment is you only true replacement option at $1800 or so based upon the options you choose.
